Reports To: BIRD Board of Directors
Status: Full-time, Exempt

About BIRD
BIRD—now BIRDworks—is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit revitalizing the East Billings Urban Renewal District (EBURD). We bring together public and private partners to invest in walkable streets, green infrastructure, safety initiatives, local business support, housing, and public art. Guided by the EBURD Master Plan and Vision, we aim to create a more connected, welcoming, and thriving district for all.
The Position
We seek a compassionate and strategic Executive Director to lead our efforts at the intersection of infrastructure, community, and equity. The ideal candidate will possess big-picture thinking, strong organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for place-based revitalization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Advance the EBURD Master Plan and Vision in partnership with community, city, and regional leaders.
Provide long-range planning and policy guidance for sustainable, inclusive district growth.
TIF Management & Infrastructure Coordination
Oversee Tax Increment Financing (TIF) projects.
Guide project funding recommendations and ensure compliance with guidelines.
Community & Economic Development
Support equitable development, small business growth, affordable housing, and green infrastructure.
Build partnerships with residents, nonprofits, developers, artists, and city officials.
Program Oversight & Events
Lead initiatives like Project Green Light, the Safety Pilot Program, and the Wild West Walls Mural Festival.
Help develop public spaces and programs reflecting district culture, creativity, and diversity.
Organizational Management
Maintain internal operations, office structure, and compliance protocols.
Collaborate with the Board, legal counsel, CPA, and other consultants to steward the organization’s mission and resources.
Communication & Advocacy
Represent BIRD in media, public meetings, and community forums.
Inform and engage community, stakeholders, and partners.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in nonprofit or public-sector leadership, urban planning, economic development, or related fields.
Strong organizational, budgeting, and communication skills.
Knowledge of public financing tools like TIF or willingness to learn.
Success in building diverse community and sector partnerships.
Passion for inclusive development, equity, and community voice.
Familiarity with Billings or similar revitalization efforts is a plus.
Compensation
$65,000 – $85,000
