The Roswell Museum and Art Center Foundation is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization in its mission to support the Roswell Museum and its programming. As the Executive Director, you will work closely with our dedicated Board of Directors to oversee the strategic, operational, and financial success of the Foundation. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and driven leader who is comfortable working independently to shape the future of a vibrant arts and culture organization and make a significant impact on the community.
About the Role: The Executive Director will be responsible for working closely with the Board of Directors to drive the Foundation’s mission and growth, with a strong focus on fundraising, organizational operations, and relationship-building. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, clear communication skills, and a passion for the arts and community engagement. This position requires an individual with strong financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be an independent, self-starter who thrives in an environment where they can take full ownership of the Foundation’s day-to-day operations while working closely with the Board for strategic guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set long-term goals, strategies, and business plans that align with the Foundation’s mission and vision.
Fundraising & Financial Management: Lead efforts to meet ambitious fundraising goals, including securing financial support from foundations, corporations, individual donors, and grants. Develop and implement budgets with actionable fundraising plans while managing cash flow and the overall financial health of the organization.
Public Relations & Communications: Serve as the public face of the Foundation, increasing visibility and community awareness through media engagement, external events, and strategic partnerships. Represent the Foundation at local media events, relevant city council meetings, Museum Board of Trustees meetings, and arts initiatives.
Operations & Compliance: Oversee the daily operations of the Foundation and ensuring organizational efficiency while complying with federal and state regulations with reporting obligations to the Board.
Board Collaboration & Support: Maintain regular communication with the Board and provide timely updates on organizational progress. Attend Board meetings and provide strategic insight on fundraising, budgeting, and operational goals.
Grant Writing & Fundraising: Work with Roswell Museum staff to identify funding opportunities, assist in writing grant proposals, and support Museum grant applications for continued financial support.
Team Leadership & Development: Cultivate a positive organizational culture by providing strong leadership and collaboration with the Board, Museum staff, and volunteers. Foster a team-oriented approach to achieve Foundation goals.
Skills & Qualifications:
Nonprofit Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success in a senior leadership role, ideally in a nonprofit arts or cultural organization.
Fundraising Expertise: Strong background in public relations, marketing, and fundraising, with a track record of successfully securing donations from diverse sources.
Board Relations: Proven experience working closely with a Board of Directors, including providing strategic guidance, fundraising support, and organizational oversight. Ability to prepare monthly meeting agendas and document Board action.
Financial Acumen: Proficiency in managing budgets, working with financial software (such as Intuit QuickBooks), and overseeing financial planning. Must be able to maintain financial and operational records, including check writing and payroll reports.
Communication Excellence: Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences and represent the organization effectively.
Community Engagement: Charismatic and approachable public spokesperson with the ability to foster strong community relationships and raise the organization’s profile.
Independence & Team Collaboration: As the sole staff member, you must have the ability to work independently while maintaining close coordination with the Board and Museum staff.
Travel & Mobility: Reliable transportation and willingness to travel as necessary for Foundation-related duties and community engagement.
