About the Mid County Chamber of Commerce

The Mid County Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit business organization serving the communities of Maplewood and Richmond Heights, Missouri and beyond. We are dedicated to supporting, promoting, and advocating for local businesses while fostering a vibrant, connected community.

Representing approximately 250 member businesses and organizations, the Chamber provides networking opportunities, educational programming, business advocacy, community events, and strategic partnerships that help businesses grow and strengthen the local economy. The Chamber is also known for producing several annual signature events each year, including the Taste of Maplewood Street Festival, Christmas Tree Walks, and Summer Concert Series and monthly networking and community engagement programs that bring businesses and residents together.

This position also serves as Executive Director for the Maplewood Community Betterment Foundation, a 501c3 organization that shares an office with the Chamber. 

Executive Director Position Summary

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and public representative of the Mid County Chamber of Commerce and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, financial management, and day-to-day operations of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board, members, community partners, and local government to advance the Chamber's mission, strengthen the business community, and oversee membership engagement, signature events, strategic partnerships, communications, and the delivery of valuable programs and services.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role requiring an individual who can think strategically while effectively managing daily operations. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, organized, and relationship-driven professional with strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while fostering collaboration among members, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders. A genuine passion for supporting local businesses and building a vibrant business community is essential.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Provide executive leadership and implement the Chamber's strategic plan and annual goals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
  • Prepare Board and committee agendas, reports, financial information, and meeting materials.
  • Advise and support the Board in organizational planning, governance, and policy development.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen Chamber programs, services, and long-term sustainability.

Membership & Community Engagement

  • Lead membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and sponsorship efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, elected officials, business leaders, and community partners
  • Serves as a representative of the Chamber at community meetings, events, and public functions.
  • Develop partnerships that enhance the Chamber's visibility and impact throughout the community.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop and oversee the annual operating budget in partnership with the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Manage Chamber finances, including budgeting, bookkeeping oversight, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, and internal controls.
  • Oversee contracts, insurance, office operations, technology, and vendor relationships.
  • Supervise Chamber staff, volunteers, and interns while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

Programs & Events

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the Chamber's signature events, networking programs, educational seminars, ribbon cuttings, and community initiatives.
  • Manage event budgets, sponsorships, logistics, volunteers, vendor relationships, marketing, and post-event evaluation.
  • Ensure Chamber programs and events provide meaningful value to members and the broader community.

Marketing & Communications

  • Oversee the Chamber's communications strategy, including newsletters, website content, social media, marketing materials, and public relations.
  • Promote Chamber programs, events, and member businesses through a variety of communication channels.
  • Maintain a consistent and professional public image for the organization.

Board & Volunteer Relations

  • Support the work of the Board of Directors and committees by providing staff leadership and administrative support.
  • Recruit, engage, and recognize volunteers while encouraging active participation throughout the organization.
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration among Board members, volunteers, staff, and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership, management, or business experience. Experience in nonprofit management, association management, Chamber of Commerce, economic development, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, membership development, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience planning and executing events, programs, and community initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, exercise sound judgment, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, project management, time management, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships with business leaders, volunteers, elected officials, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent the Chamber with professionalism, diplomacy, and discretion while remaining objective and navigating sensitive situations with tact and sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive Board, personnel, financial, and member information.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, financial reports, and organizational resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), QuickBooks or comparable accounting software, and a working knowledge of financial statements.
  • Comfortable learning and utilizing new technology, including AI tools, software platforms, databases, and business applications.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally for meetings and events.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, walk one flight of stairs on a regular basis, and work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience using Canva for graphic design and marketing materials.
  • Experience managing or updating WordPress websites.
  • Proficiency with business-focused social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Experience with point-of-sale platforms such as Square, PayPal, and/or Stripe.
  • Experience in sponsorship development, volunteer management, and event production.
  • Knowledge of local government, the regional business community, or Chamber of Commerce operations.
