About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director to lead its organization, which is dedicated to elevating the visibility and credibility of the field of social studies. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting a bold vision and strategy, ensuring that programs and resources meet the needs of a diverse membership, and operating the organization efficiently. This role requires a leader with a passion for social studies education, a proven track record in change management, and a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Executive Director will work closely with the board, staff, and members to collaboratively deliver a new strategic plan, with a focus on member engagement and the growth of a diverse and engaged membership. Key responsibilities for the Executive Director include serving as the principal spokesperson for the organization, managing finances with integrity and transparency, and overseeing day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will have no less than 10 years of leadership experience in a relevant setting, a significant supervisory record, and a successful history of senior-level fundraising.
They should be adept at fostering strong relationships, both within the organization and with external partners, and be able to effectively communicate the mission and impact of the organization. Experience in a membership organization, a background in education, and a Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential are considered major pluses. The role demands a leader who is consensus-oriented, emotionally intelligent, and capable of connecting ideas with actions to drive the organization forward.
