​Are you a visionary leader with a heart for healing and a passion for making a difference? Pile of Puppies (POP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing joy to chronically and terminally ill children and their families, is seeking an Executive Director to lead our mission of creating “Joy Healings” through the simple, profound act of surrounding children with a pile of puppies.
This is a part-time, remote position based in Oregon—an ideal opportunity for a mission-driven leader who is passionate about bringing light into the lives of children facing chronic and terminal illnesses. At POP, we believe in the healing power of joy. Through our unique programming, we create unforgettable moments by surrounding children with what they love most: a pile of puppies.
As Executive Director, you will be responsible for guiding POP’s strategic direction, overseeing operations, supporting a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and cultivating the resources and partnerships needed to sustain and grow our mission. We’re looking for a leader who embodies empathy and integrity, thrives in collaborative environments, and brings both the heart and the expertise to help POP continue delivering joyful, life-affirming experiences to families when they need them most.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Operations
Oversee day-to-day operations, including the management of 1 staff member and 5 volunteers.
Lead organizational strategy, change management, and risk assessment while fostering a positive, mission-aligned culture.
Continuously evaluate internal systems and infrastructure to ensure organizational effectiveness and adaptability.
Fundraising & Financial Oversight
Develop and manage POP’s annual budget and fundraising strategy.
Identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships across individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
Lead grant writing, reporting, and prospecting for new funding opportunities.
Oversee donor database management, campaign analytics, and impact reporting.
Outreach & Community Engagement
Spearhead POP’s social media presence and content strategy to amplify awareness and support.
Represent POP in public forums, media, and with key stakeholders including community partners, government agencies, and funders.
Drive community engagement through events, partnerships, and creative storytelling that reflects POP’s joyful, heart-forward mission.
Team Development
Recruit, train, and mentor staff and volunteer fundraisers throughout Oregon.
Implement and manage project tools to enhance team collaboration and efficiency.
Foster a supportive and inclusive team environment.
Marketing & Communications
Lead the creation and execution of compelling digital and print communications.
Contribute to the planning, production, and distribution of newsletters, social media campaigns, and marketing collateral.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5+ years of nonprofit or human services leadership experience
Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing
Strong operational and financial management skills
Empathetic, intuitive, and mission-aligned leadership style
Skilled communicator with public speaking and community engagement experience
Background in healthcare, hospice, social work, or nonprofit management a plus
Experience working with volunteers and building strong team dynamics
Ability to analyze financial trends and make strategic decisions
