Overview

Executive Director Jobs in San Francisco, USA at Principled

Executive Director

Level: Executive

Location: San Francisco, CA (in-person)

Working Hours: Full-time

Reporting to: Board of Directors

About the Role: We’re partnering with a technology-focused nonprofit that has grown rapidly from a volunteer community into a structured, internationally distributed organization. It operates as an incubator and advocacy hub – supporting a growing portfolio of independent projects across the tech sector. The organization’s work is rooted in Palestinian rights, and commitment to that mission is a core requirement for this role.

They’re seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization through its next phase of growth – professionalizing operations, scaling fundraising, and expanding the incubator’s capacity to support advocacy and economic-opportunity projects in tech. This is a high-visibility leadership role for someone who can combine nonprofit management discipline with genuine fluency in tech-industry culture. The Executive Director will work closely with the founder and Board, manage a small but growing staff, and serve as a primary public-facing representative to donors, media, and partner organizations.

What

You’ll Do

Strategy & Leadership

  • Set and execute organizational strategy in partnership with the Board and founder
  • Identify and prioritize which incubated projects and initiatives receive resources, based on impact potential and mission fit
  • Build and lead a growing internal team, including engineering and program staff

Fundraising & Financial Management

  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy across individual donors, foundations, and the broader tech-industry coalition
  • Oversee budgeting, financial controls, and 501(c)(3) compliance and reporting
  • Diversify revenue beyond founder-driven networks to build long-term sustainability

Program & Incubator Oversight

  • Oversee the incubator’s intake, mentorship, and resourcing process for new and existing projects
  • Ensure incubated projects have the staffing, infrastructure, and strategic support to scale
  • Track and report on program impact and outcomes

External Representation & Partnerships

  • Serve as a public spokesperson with media, at events, and in coalition settings
  • Build relationships with digital rights organizations, advocacy groups, and allied nonprofits
  • Represent the organization’s mission credibly to a wide range of stakeholders, including skeptical or hostile audiences

Governance

  • Report regularly to the Board on organizational performance, risk, and strategy
  • Maintain operational transparency and ensure the organization operates within legal and regulatory bounds for a U.S. nonprofit

What Success Looks Like

  • A diversified funding base reducing reliance on any single donor or network
  • Clear operational structure and reporting cadence with the Board
  • Incubator program scaled with measurable improvements in project outcomes and graduation rates
  • Strengthened external partnerships with allied advocacy and digital rights organizations
  • Increased organizational visibility and credibility with press and the public

What You Are

Required

  • 7 years of progressively senior leadership experience, including nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven organization management – or equivalent leadership experience in tech with strong nonprofit fundamentals
  • Demonstrated fundraising success across individual donors, foundations, or major-gift cultivation
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams
  • Excellent public communication skills – comfortable representing the organization to media, donors, and the public, including in high-scrutiny situations
  • Genuine, demonstrated commitment to Palestinian rights and the organization’s mission
  • Financial and operational management experience, including nonprofit compliance

Preferred

  • Background in or close familiarity with the tech or startup industry
  • Experience running or scaling an incubator, accelerator, or grants program
  • Arabic language proficiency
  • Existing relationships within the tech-for-good, digital rights, or Palestinian advocacy ecosystem
  • Experience working with distributed, multinational, or diaspora communities
