Reports To: Treasurer —

NAML, Inc. (Assistant to the Executive)

NAML, Inc. is seeking a results-oriented, analytically driven Assistant Treasurer to strengthen financial oversight, accelerate affordable housing delivery, and elevate fundraising performance. This role is ideal for someone who loves data, analysis, and AI-enabled workflows—and who is comfortable owning outcomes, not just tasks.

About NAML

NAML is a community development nonprofit focused on affordable housing and related social services. The organization manages complex, multi-stakeholder projects funded through LIHTC, PBV, grants, and donor support.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive, the Assistant Treasurer will serve as a high-accountability operator who ensures the business lead performs to expectation, manages the affordable housing project manager, leads fundraising projects, and partners with contract accountants to keep the books accurate and compliant. The role blends governance-grade financial oversight with hands-on project and performance management.

Key ResponsibilitiesPerformance Management & Operations

  • Set clear KPIs and cadence for the business lead; review dashboards, variance reports, and operational metrics; escalate and resolve performance gaps.
  • Manage the affordable housing project manager: align milestones, budgets, and compliance checkpoints; remove blockers; ensure on-time delivery.
  • Build AI-enabled workflows (e.g., automated reporting, document QA, forecasting) to improve speed and accuracy of decisions.

Fundraising Project Management

  • Own fundraising projects end-to-end: pipeline building, donor cultivation campaigns, grant submissions, and post-award reporting.
  • Translate financials into compelling narratives for donors and funders; coordinate with the Executive on strategy and stewardship.

Financial Oversight & Compliance

  • Work closely with contract accountants to ensure books are accurate, audit-ready, and compliant with nonprofit and program requirements (e.g., LIHTC/PBV, grant terms).
  • Review monthly financials, cash flow, budget vs. actuals, and internal controls; flag risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support year-end reporting, Form 990 readiness, and audit coordination; maintain clear documentation and policies.

Analysis, AI, and Continuous Improvement

  • Build and maintain analytical models for project feasibility, fundraising ROI, and scenario planning.
  • Leverage AI tools to automate routine finance/ops tasks, improve data quality, and surface insights for leadership.

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Business lead performance meets or exceeds agreed KPIs; operational dashboards are reliable and used in decision-making.
  • Affordable housing project milestones are achieved on schedule and within budget; compliance findings are minimal or none.
  • Fundraising projects hit targets; donor reporting is timely and accurate.
  • Financial statements are clean, on time, and audit-ready; contract accountants operate with clear SLAs and quality checks.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in finance/operations within a high-profile community development, affordable housing, or nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record managing people and projects; comfortable holding others accountable and driving results.
  • Strong nonprofit accounting literacy (financial statements, internal controls, audits, Form 990); experience with LIHTC/PBV or similar programs is a plus.
  • Advanced analytical skills; fluent with spreadsheets, dashboards, and AI tools to automate and improve workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex financials for non-financial stakeholders.

Working Style & Values

  • Ownership mindset: you take accountability for outcomes, not just activities.
  • Data-first and AI-curious: you prefer evidence, automation, and clear metrics.
  • Discreet, ethical, and mission-aligned with affordable housing and community development.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $75,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience, demonstrated results, and depth of affordable-housing/community-development expertise.

This range reflects NAML’s mission-driven environment and the role’s combined responsibility for finance oversight, housing-project management, fundraising execution, and team accountability. NAML may consider compensation toward the top of the range for a candidate with substantial LIHTC/PBV, affordable housing development, major-fundraising, and nonprofit financial-compliance experience.

Performance incentive: Eligibility for an annual performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary, based on agreed annual measures, such as:

  • Business lead performance against approved KPIs.
  • Affordable housing project milestones, budget discipline, and compliance outcomes.
  • Fundraising revenue, grant awards, donor pipeline growth, and reporting quality.
  • On-time, accurate financial reporting and successful audit/compliance results.
  • Adoption of AI-enabled systems that produce measurable operational or financial improvements.

Benefits package:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with NAML contributing toward employee coverage.
  • Retirement plan, such as a 403(b), with employer contribution or match as financially feasible.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, and organization closure days where applicable.
  • Flexible/hybrid work arrangements based on project, meeting, and compliance requirements.
  • Professional-development support for nonprofit finance, affordable housing, grant compliance, AI/data analytics, and leadership training.
  • Reimbursement for approved business expenses, local travel, and professional memberships.
  • Paid parental, bereavement, and jury-duty leave in accordance with NAML policy.
