Founded in the 1800s by German-Jewish immigrants, The Greenpoint Shul, Congregation Ahavas Israel, is a welcoming, warm, modern-Orthodox congregation in waterfront Brooklyn. We are the oldest continuously running synagogue in Brooklyn and our 1903 building is a jewel of Jewish and New York City history. Through Torah, prayer, food, song and Jewish celebration in our historic space, our community members of all ages and backgrounds come together to foster a sense of Jewish identity, communal purpose and belonging for all Jews and our loved ones.
Executive Assistant
The Executive Assistant will work closely with the rabbi, executive leadership, and community members across North Brooklyn to develop and implement the week-to-week management of The Greenpoint Shul’s critical ongoing focus areas of strategy and operations, programming and events, marketing and communications, lay leadership outreach and engagement in order to advance the Greenpoint Shul’s mission, vision and values. This role will report to the rabbi and shul president and will be at a rate of $30,000 a year for 20 hours a week of work.
Essential Functions
Writing, sending emails, and scheduling meetings on behalf of the rabbi and executive leadership.
Maintaining excel documents and member database in Shul Cloud.
Organizing meeting agendas, pre and post emails, and ongoing communication with parties involved to achieve optimal meeting results.
Coordinating and overseeing implementation of programming and events, including managing event registrations, placing orders for catering and supplies, and coordinating deliveries and event set-ups.
Work with vendors we hire for shul functions to complete tasks efficiently.
Support the growth and development of lay leadership engagement in the shul.
Attend events and programs as directed by the rabbi, approximately 2-3 per month.
Curating the newsletter, social media and other marketing and communication materials.
Managing building maintenance, organization and construction projects in coordination with the Shul Care committee and according to the shul’s maintenance plan.
Supporting the rabbi’s administrative needs.
Strong commitment to ethical practices.
Mission-driven, self-directed, organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, discrete, and operates with integrity.
Has experience in excel, email, google docs, and instagram and other social media websites; experience with Shul Cloud a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinaryproject management skills.
An understanding of the organized Jewish community of New York and Brooklyn.
Has a desire to interact with the broader North Brooklyn Jewish Community.
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people, including but not limited to the Greenpoint Shul professional and lay leadership.
