Role Overview

As an Emergency Shelter Family Advocate, you will support the daily operations of the Emergency Shelter Program, assisting survivors and ensuring a safe, compassionate environment. Reporting to the Director of Shelter Services, you will collaborate across programs to promote healing and empowerment, helping survivors rebuild their lives.

Key Responsibilities

Develop safety plans and manage cases for client support.

Provide crisis counseling and advocacy, connecting clients with community resources.

Assist with legal referrals, DHS benefits, and education on domestic violence laws.

Refer clients to community resources and facilitate access.

Manage shelter operations, engage in community building, and handle donations.

Conduct client evaluations and maintain records.

Mentor volunteers and interns, build relationships with local agencies, and provide post-shelter support.

Travel locally to deliver services.

Support survivors and promote a violence-free society.

Engage clients with authenticity while maintaining boundaries.

Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity.

Align practices with professional ethics, including NASW Code of Ethics.

Collaborate effectively within the team and participate in meetings and training.

Complete required trainings such as IM+CANS and domestic violence education.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.

Fluency in Spanish (bilingual required).

Experience in crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Cultural competence and sensitivity.

Passion for empowering clients.

Ability to manage tasks efficiently and work independently or in teams.

Familiarity with electronic medical records is a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer systems.

Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and active auto insurance.

Work Environment

& Benefits

Schedule:

Tuesday to Saturday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM.

Work in professional offices and secure shelters.

Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds and navigate stairs.

Service commitment: 70% direct service.

Participation in staff meetings and outreach activities.

Local travel required.

Compensation: $20–$25/hour, paid bi-weekly.
