Position: Emergency Housing Assistant Case Manager (2nd Shift)

Location: City of Binghamton

Position Title: Emergency Housing Assistant Case Manager

Mission: Committed to the elimination of racism and empowerment of women and children.

Objective: Emergency Housing Case Manager is the core services provider of the shelter program. The empowerment of women depends on the case manager’s ability to help these women learn to evaluate their life circumstances. The case manager is crucial in helping to identify self-defeating (as well as successful) patterns of behavior and connect with the appropriate community resources. This position is fast-paced and requires a person capable of multi-tasking.

The case manager for this program will meet the following criteria:

Responsibilities:

Evaluate referrals for Emergency Housing tenants, community resources, and conduct intake sessions.

Meet with tenants daily to work on Individualized Service Plan goals and evaluate progress (Intensive Case Management).

Attend monthly and other staff meetings with the Residential Assistant/YWCA team.

Complete program documentation and maintain resident’s confidential files.

Facilitate referrals to the YWCA’s long-term housing programs, connect clients with external community resources, and assist with Coordinated Entry assessments and referrals.

Collect and report program data, including but not limited to HMIS reporting and funders’ required data.

Requirements:

Requires knowledge and belief in “Housing First” philosophy and strategies.

Minimum

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in human services or related experience.

Excellent communication skills, active listening, writing skills, empathy, advocacy, organizational skills, and problem solving.

Possess strong organizational skills with ability to meet a demanding workload.

Detail oriented to complete requirements of files and contract compliance.

Knowledge and understanding of tenants’ rights and responsibilities, combined with a strengths-based approach to case management, to help clients identify their strengths, set goals, and develop actionable plans to achieve them.

Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, social service agencies, and landlords.

Experience with computers and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Valid driver’s license.

Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.

The ability to establish and set appropriate limits with people served to help them gain skills and confidence.

The ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and/or service providers or professionals.

The capacity to maintain a role to empower clients and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals.

Reporting Relationship: Emergency Housing Case Manager

Classification: Hourly, non-exempt

Pay Rate: $22 per hour

Hours: Monday through Friday. Full-time; 40 hours per week.

Shift: 2nd Shift, 4pm-12am
