Editorial Liaison – Journal of Sickle Cell Disease Jobs in Remote at Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research
Position Summary
The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Editorial Liaison to support the Journal of Sickle Cell Disease and coordinate communications and deliverables between journal leadership, the symposium department, the Managing Editor, authors, contributors, and our Publisher.
This is a limited-hours contract role focused on publication coordination, deadline tracking, follow-up, and the annual symposium abstract supplement. The Editorial Liaison will not serve as the Managing Editor or make independent editorial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary coordination point between FSCDR and the Publisher.
- Maintain publication calendars, deadline trackers, and lists of outstanding items.
- Follow up with authors, editors, reviewers, and contributors regarding required materials and deadlines.
- Coordinate journal meetings, prepare agendas, document action items, and monitor follow-up.
- Support production of the annual symposium abstract supplement – this is a major component and hours may increase during abstract submission times and and the time leading up to June’s publication.
- Receive finalized accepted abstracts and presentation information from the scientific programs team.
- Organize and quality-check abstract files, author information, presentation details, and publication documentation before submission to Oxford.
- Track licenses, proofs, corrections, approvals, and publication status.
- Provide concise status updates and promptly escalate delays or missing information.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting a scholarly journal, medical publication, academic society, or scientific conference.
- Familiarity with journal publishing workflows, manuscript tracking, abstracts, proofs, or publication supplements.
- Excellent written communication, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential information and communicate professionally with physicians, researchers, authors, and publishing partners.
- Experience working with an academic publisher is strongly preferred.
Pay: $50.00 – $65.00 per hour
