POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Coordinator will provide essential administrative support and data entry services to the Health/Wellness & Disabilities Manager. This role is crucial in ensuring the effective operation of a high-quality Early Head Start (EHS) program in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Reviews exams, screenings and health intake forms and enters health events into ChildPlus. The Health Coordinator will assist the management team to effectively operate a high quality EHS program in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. This position will review Child and Adult Care Food Programs
(CACFP) forms and will ensure childcare centers are following the CACFP guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate efforts with medical providers and Early Childhood Educators (ECE) to obtain all necessary health and educational services for children
Design and implement nutrition services that are culturally and developmentally appropriate, meet the nutritional needs of and accommodate the feeding requirements of each child, including children with special dietary needs and children with disabilities.
Assist in the development and monitoring of the Child and Adult Food Program and Head Start budget for Health and Nutrition.
Enter CACFP program data and with the financial department for invoice purposes.
Reviews and enters screenings, immunizations, and the rest of EHS-require forms into Child-Plus
Follow-up on incomplete 30-day requirement, 45-day sensory screenings and 90-day health determinations records.
Complete referral forms when concerns identified on medical documents or intake forms and follow-up with Program Manager in regard to health referrals.
Coordinate/Monitor health, nutrition, and safety training requirements for staff, parents and children.
Process documentation necessary when requesting medical records of all children in the program.
Conduct initial and /or follow-up calls to medical providers regarding pending medical
Conduct/ensure completion of Health and Safety Checklists on a regular basis, for each classroom and socialization space.
Seek, maintain and update health education materials, health insurance and clinic
information.
Coordinate and develop staff training for the health and nutrition component.
Participate in conducting and assisting with self-assessment and community assessment.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as an effective member of a
multidisciplinary team.
Participate in Early Childhood & Family Engagement – EHS & other LAEP departments in
staff meetings and training.
Work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of families (e.g., evenings or Saturdays).
Coordinate planning and organizing the quarterly Health Services Advisory Committee (HSAC) with the community, EHS parents, and staff.
Facilitate and advertise virtual or in-person health and nutrition education classes to Early Head Start parents and staff based on community needs.
Collaborate with Early Childhood Educators and Teachers to review missing/expired health paperwork and medical/dental records.
Partner and collaborate with neighboring organizations to create an effective resource and referral list.
Meet with families with nutrition and health concerns to create goals and guidance.
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Bachelors of Science in Nutritional Science
Nutrition and Dietetics Technician Registered with the Commission of Nutrition and Dietetics
Associate degree in health or nursing education or allied fields preferred.
CNA or LVN certification preferred
Early Head Start knowledge
