Nashville Rescue Mission is actively seeking a Donor Relations Officer Mid-Level Giving to join our Development team. The Donor Relations Officer serves as a key member of the Development team by cultivating and strengthening relationships with assigned donors and prospects to secure and grow mid-level gifts ($1,000-$5,000), while developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies that advance the Mission. Collaborates with Development and Marketing team members on donor engagement, stewardship initiatives, special events, and sponsorship opportunities. Fosters trust and meaningful connections through a relational, service-oriented approach characterized by excellent listening skills, professionalism, organization, accountability, and consistent follow-through, while upholding the Mission’s Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.


Essential Duties:


Portfolio Management

  • Maintains and actively manages a portfolio of mid-level donors, ensuring consistent and meaningful engagement.
  • Applies fundraising best practices for mid-level donor segmentation and relationship development.
  • Tracks donor interactions, giving history, and engagement preferences using CRM tools to inform strategy.
  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators including retention, upgrade rates, and donor lifetime value.

Donor Acquisition and Cultivation

  • Identifies and qualifies new mid-level donor prospects through CRM data analysis, campaigns, and referrals.
  • Collaborates with the direct response and marketing teams to design outreach strategies that attract and convert donors into the mid-level tier, including the monthly sustainer program, Partners of Hope.
  • Conducts outreach via phone, email, and (limited) in-person meetings or tours to build relationships and deepen donor commitment.
  • Collaborates with the major gifts team to build a pipeline strategy. Analyzes giving trends to identify donors with potential to upgrade to major gift levels and collaborates with the major gifts team to transition qualified donors into their portfolios.


Stewardship and Engagement

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for mid-level donors, providing timely acknowledgements, impact updates, and personalized communications.
  • Supports the team by planning and coordinating day-of logistics and RSVPS around assignments that support the team, including behind-the-scenes tours, mission impact briefings, and donor appreciation events.
  • Ensures donors feel valued and connected to the mission through thoughtful stewardship touchpoints throughout the fiscal season or calendar year.


Collaboration and Strategy

  • Partners with the annual giving, major gifts, and marketing/communications teams to align messaging, donor journeys and user experience.
  • Contributes to segmentation strategies and CRM enhancements to improve donor tracking and engagement.
  • Supports fundraising campaigns and events that engage mid-level donors and promote increased giving.
  • Participates with Development and Marketing team members in staffing special events as needed with occasional availability on evenings or weekends.


Other Duties:

  • Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in communications, marketing, public relations, or related discipline required or 8 years of equivalent experience with a nonprofit.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development or other related experience (sales, admissions, etc.).
  • A working knowledge of fundraising best practices and CRM databases (Virtuous preferred).
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and public presentation skills.
  • Possesses computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable sharing your faith (as appropriate) and praying for donors.
  • Adept at data analysis and report generation.
  • Ability to qualify as a designated Mission vehicle driver under NRM insurance policy:
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Have no more than two moving violations in a 3-year period or more than one accident in a 1-year period
    • Proof of insurance on personal vehicle (current)
