Chung Huong Institute® (CHI) is the only nonprofit organization in the United States that is fully operated by Buddhist renunciates and uniquely integrates the three major Buddhist traditions—Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna—with contemporary scientific inquiry. We invite scholars worldwide to visit, study, and contribute to the greater human experience. We serve all communities, including the marginalized communities that do not have a chance to study such topics to receive an education in psychology, mindfulness, compassion, contemplative pedagogy, Buddhist studies, and transformative growth.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, ethical, and driven individual to join our fundraising team as an intern of volunteer. This postion is unpaid with the potential for employment.
Internship Description:
Help shape and implement fundraising strategies that are joyful, inspiring, person-centered, and grounded in community.
Conduct research to identify aligned donors, grant opportunities, and philanthropic foundations that support causes such as mental health, East–West dialogue, cultural preservation, Buddhist studies, psychology, and infrastructure development, including land acquisition and building projects.
Leading the creation of high-quality fundraising and communication materials.
Co-develop outreach materials, such as information packets, mini-pitches, and social media content that tell our story with heart.
Help design and execute fundraising campaigns (e.g., GivingTuesday, year-end appeals).
Leading grant applications from proposal development to reporting and compliance.
Establishing and refining systems and processes to facilitate all aspects of fundraising.
This is a remote position with flexible hours that fit within your schedule.
Qualifications:
Mission-driven
Strong interest in nonprofit work and community engagement.
Strong research and writing skills with attention to both facts and feelings
A love for community engagement, and comfort walking into local shops or community centers to introduce yourself and pitch ideas
Excellent verbal communication—you can speak mindfully, clearly, warmly, honestly, and persuasively; a great storyteller.
Have the ability to concisely articulate ideas for various stakeholders – whether in writing, presentations, or conversations.
Team spirit and openness to feedback, learning, and growth
Some experience in event coordination, fundraising, or outreach is helpful but not required
Familiarity with basic tech tools like spreadsheets, email, and Google Drive
A passion for advancing mental health, cultural preservation, Buddhist studies, and community.
Currently enrolled in or graduated from a relevant program (psychology, sociology, nonprofit management, public policy, urban studies, communications, environmental studies, or a related field.)
A strong existing network among relevant philanthropists and foundations is ideal.
Good command over MS office suite/design tools like Canvas/Adobe Photoshop, etc.
Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
