The Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity to lead fundraising for one of The Salvation Army’s most respected and high-performing divisions.
Reporting to the General Secretary, the Divisional Director of Development serves as the senior development executive for Arkansas and Oklahoma, providing strategic leadership across all fundraising efforts while partnering with divisional leadership, Corps officers, Advisory Boards, and local development professionals.
Beyond leading a comprehensive fundraising program, this executive will mentor development leaders, strengthen fundraising capacity across the Division, cultivate major donors, corporations, and foundations, and help shape the long-term philanthropic vision for the organization.
This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who enjoys coaching others, building meaningful relationships, and advancing a Christ-centered mission through strategic philanthropy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Arkansas & Oklahoma Divisional Development Department and oversee division-wide fundraising strategy and operations.
- Advise Area Commands, Corps, and Service Units on fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, direct mail, campaigns, and development planning.
- Direct major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation relations, planned giving, Advisory Board development, public relations, marketing, special events, and fundraising education.
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop development staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Ensure compliance with Divisional and Territorial fundraising policies and legal requirements.
- Develop and manage the divisional development budget.
- Support and coordinate the Divisional Advisory Board.
- Provide fundraising reports and strategic updates to divisional leadership.
- Oversee Service Unit direct mail fundraising and vendor relationships.
- Cultivate relationships with major donors, corporations, foundations, financial professionals, and community partners.
- Personally lead fundraising efforts in communities without dedicated development staff.
- Partner with the Divisional Communications Director to align fundraising and marketing initiatives.
- Deliver fundraising education and professional development for officers, Advisory Boards, and local leadership.
- Stay current on fundraising trends, tax legislation, and philanthropic best practices.
- Support planned giving initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 5–7 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising leadership experience.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing professional staff.
- Strong knowledge of major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation fundraising, planned giving, direct mail, grants, and special events.
- Demonstrated success cultivating donor relationships and securing major philanthropic gifts.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, fundraising analytics, and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, marketing, and relationship-building abilities.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, stewardship, and confidentiality.
- Passion for The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
- Experience with The Salvation Army and CFRE certification are preferred but not required.
Work Environment & Travel
Based in Oklahoma City, this position requires frequent travel throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma to support Corps, Area Commands, Advisory Boards, donors, and community partners. A Salvation Army vehicle is provided for business travel. Fridays are a regular remote workday when not traveling.
