The Initiative is seeking a full-time Disability Specialist & Victim Advocate to work on-site in collaboration with PorchLight: A Family Justice Center in Lakewood, Colorado.
The Initiative is a Colorado nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and abuse through trauma-informed advocacy, education, and community collaboration. Working alongside PorchLight and other community partners, we strive to improve access to services, remove barriers, and create safer, more inclusive systems for survivors with disabilities.
This grant-funded position combines direct victim advocacy with disability expertise, accessibility consultation, and professional training. As the Disability Specialist & Victim Advocate, you will provide trauma-informed support to survivors with disabilities while serving as a trusted accessibility resource for PorchLight staff and partner agencies. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to reduce barriers to services, improve accessibility, deliver training and technical assistance, and help ensure survivors with disabilities have equitable access to support.
The ideal candidate is passionate about disability rights, victim advocacy, trauma-informed care, and systems change, and enjoys building collaborative relationships that strengthen services for individuals and families.
Essential Responsibilities
· Provide trauma-informed advocacy, safety planning, referrals, and ongoing support to survivors with disabilities, with a caseload of up to 20 clients.
· Serve as the disability accessibility resource for PorchLight and partner agencies by consulting on accessibility, accommodations, and inclusive service delivery.
· Develop and deliver training and technical assistance on disability awareness, accessibility, and best practices.
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to strengthen services, reduce barriers, and advance grant objectives.
· Maintain confidential client records, grant documentation, and required program reporting.
· Participate in meetings, outreach, and occasional travel within Colorado.
· Miscellaneous responsibilities, as requested/required by PorchLight/The Initiative
Minimum Qualifications
· Three (3) years of professional experience in disability advocacy, victim advocacy, social services, rehabilitation, case management, or a related field.
· Extensive knowledge of disability rights, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), accessibility principles, and reasonable accommodations.
· Experience supporting individuals impacted by trauma, violence, abuse, or other vulnerable populations.
· Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities.
· Experience developing and delivering training or technical assistance, or the ability to do so effectively.
· Reliable transportation to and from PorchLight: A Family Justice Center
· Master’s/Graduate Degree in related area preferred
· Fluency in Spanish preferred
Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $65,000. The Initiative offers a benefits package that includes health insurance or health stipend, a retirement savings plan, vacation, sick leave, personal days, holidays, an organization-wide closure during the final two weeks of each calendar year.
