Director of Youth Discipleship Position Opening
Central United Methodist Church, Florence SC
Central UMC () is seeking its next Director of Youth Discipleship. This person will be part of a vital and collaborative ministry team that includes clergy, staff, and youth and adult lay leaders. The role involves planning and offering fellowship, programs, and ministry experiences that engage youth from seventh through 12th grades. Spiritual gifts of exhortation, leadership, and administration are highly beneficial.
Central is seeking a Christian candidate with a bachelor’s degree, experience in youth ministry or other Christian education, and a vital faith life.

Job Summary
The Director of Youth Discipleship provides guidance for programming and ministry activities that help middle and high school students (grades 7-12) grow in their faith and discipleship of Jesus Christ.
Hours
Full-time position requiring weekend and evening responsibilities.
Accountability
Supervised by the Minister of Faith Formation.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Qualifications
Spiritual gifts: exhortation, leadership, and administration
Organizational and communication skills
Willingness to work as part of a ministerial team
Proficiency in computer and social media
Ability to delegate and oversee committees
Responsibilities Program Management
Coordinate with the Youth Ministry Team to plan and implement programs including worship, study, fellowship, service, and faith development activities.
Ensure adherence to Safe Sanctuaries policies in all youth programs.
Develop and manage the annual budget with the Youth Ministry Team.
Develop and empower a youth-led Youth Council.
Train and support volunteers involved in youth ministry.
Assist clergy with a comprehensive Confirmation program.
Partner with outreach teams for missions and empower youth participation.
Develop small group ministries within youth programs.
Encourage youth participation in worship services.
Plan special events like Youth Sunday, Graduate Sunday, etc.
Collaborate with the Director of Children’s Ministry for Jr. UMYF events.
Procure curriculum and supplies for programs.
Plan and execute Youth Sunday.
Communication
Provide timely updates to parents and church members.
Respond promptly to concerns.
Distribute handbooks, calendars, and program materials.
Seek feedback for continuous improvement.
Church Relations
Serve as liaison between Youth Ministry and Education and Spiritual Growth teams.
Assist in preparing Youth Ministry reports for Charge Conference.
Maintain connections with United Methodist activities at district and conference levels.
