We exist to share love and dignity to those experiencing homelessness in Nashville. We do this by providing relief, community, connection, and restoration.
People Loving Nashville was established in 2008 when a group of friends shared several hot meals with some individuals living on the streets on a cold Thanksgiving night. The experience changed something in them, and they continued to bring supper downtown once a month. Once a month soon turned into a weekly tradition. From a two-burner stove in a bachelor pad to a commercially-outfitted kitchen at church, we have continued to grow and expand, learning and maturing along the way, all against the backdrop of friendship.
Our skilled staff and trained volunteers seek to form relationships that bring a Christ-centered, evidence-based pathway to sustainable hope, healing, and restoration. We begin the process by assembling meals, preparing clothing and supplies for distribution to hundreds, and provide emergency response to serve the suffering of our city in public spaces, low-income apartment complexes, homeless camps, and more, every weekday.
Key Responsibilities
Programs and Outreach Leadership
- Provide strategic and operational oversight for Relief and Community Programs, ensuring goals are met efficiently, safely, and with dignity. Supervise and mentor the Relief Manager and Community Manager, lead regular team meetings.
- Serve as the frontline leader for all outreach events, with Monday and Thursday currently being our flagships. You will also be available for site visits, and other volunteer events.
- Continually assess outreach operations, identify service gaps, and implement creative solutions that strengthen relationships and improve support for unhoused neighbors.
Financial, Vendor, and Resource Management
- Develop and manage program, operational, project, and administrative budgets. Guide departmental spending, reduce unclassified or unreceipted expenses, and support the Chief of Staff with annual budgeting.
- Oversee contracts, vendors, city agreements, in kind donations, warehouse operations, inventory, and outreach supplies, ensuring resources are managed responsibly without reducing impact.
Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with churches, government agencies, community organizations, and service providers. Expand PLN’s partner network and the resources available through outreach while representing the organization with professionalism, humility, and credibility.
Operations, Safety, and Compliance
- Oversee fleet maintenance, registration, insurance, driver safety, risk management, permits, and regulatory compliance. Develop and enforce outreach safety, emergency, and operational protocols to protect guests, volunteers, and staff.
Data and Evaluation
- Oversee data collection, evaluation, and reporting for Relief and Community Programs. Ensure accurate updates are prepared for staff, executive leadership, and the Board, and use community feedback to improve outreach practices and program effectiveness.
