Position Summary:

The Resource Development Director serves as the agency’s lead fundraising professional and is responsible for building and growing meaningful, long-term relationships with individuals, corporations, and other partners capable of making significant investments in Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, this position develops and executes annual and multi-year fundraising strategies focused on major gifts, corporate partnerships, donor retention, and sustainable revenue growth.

The Resource Development Director manages the full donor cycle—from identification and qualification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—and maintains a portfolio of current and prospective donors. As a member of the Leadership Team, this position also leads the agency’s Resource Development function, including supervision of the Special Events Coordinator and Marketing & Communications staff, and works collaboratively with the CEO and Development Associate to ensure fundraising, communications, stewardship, and donor engagement efforts are aligned with the agency’s strategic priorities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Department Leadership, Marketing & Communications·

Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Resource Development Department, establishing clear priorities, goals, workflows, and accountability across fundraising, events, marketing, communications, and stewardship.

Supervise and support the Special Events Coordinator and Marketing & Communications staff, including setting expectations, coordinating priorities, monitoring performance, and ensuring their work advances fundraising and organizational goals.·

Work collaboratively with the CEO and Development Associate to coordinate donor outreach, research, database management, meeting preparation, gift administration, stewardship, campaign support, and follow-up.·

Oversee the agency’s marketing and communications strategy, including donor communications, fundraising campaigns, impact storytelling, digital communications, promotional materials, and organizational messaging.

Partner with program and leadership staff to identify compelling stories, outcomes, impact data, and engagement opportunities that strengthen donor and community relationships.·

Ensure special events, communications, and marketing efforts support broader donor cultivation, corporate engagement, stewardship, and fundraising strategies.

Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and contribute to the development and implementation of agency strategic and operating plans.

Fund Development Strategy & Revenue Growth·

Develop and implement an annual and multi-year resource development plan with measurable revenue, donor engagement, and pipeline goals.·

In collaboration with the CEO, establish contributed revenue goals and strategies for achieving them.·

Maintain a diversified fundraising strategy focused on major individual giving, corporate partnerships, annual giving, planned giving, and other high-potential philanthropic opportunities.·

Develop and maintain a multi-year pipeline of current and prospective donors, including projected gifts, relationship strategies, and next steps.·

Establish and monitor key fundraising metrics, evaluate progress and trends, and adjust strategies throughout the year as needed.·

Develop compelling cases for support tied to the agency’s programs, strategic priorities, growth initiatives, and community impact.·

Identify new opportunities for sustainable revenue growth and long-term philanthropic investment.

Major & Individual Giving·

Manage a portfolio of approximately 50–100 current and prospective individual and corporate donors, with an emphasis on those capable of significant annual and multi-year investments.·

Build meaningful relationships through regular donor meetings, visits, communications, and engagement opportunities.·

Develop individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies based on each donor’s interests, relationship, capacity, and readiness to give.·

Personally solicit major gifts and other significant philanthropic commitments.·

Strengthen donor retention and increase giving by moving appropriate donors from annual or event-based support into deeper, long-term relationships with the organization.·

Identify and cultivate prospective major donors who do not currently have a relationship with the agency.·

Identify appropriate opportunities for planned giving, legacy giving, endowment support, and other long-term investments as organizational capacity grows.

Corporate Development·

Build and maintain strategic relationships with corporations and business leaders throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding communities.·

Identify organizations with the capacity and alignment to become significant financial, volunteer, programmatic, and community partners.·

Develop customized corporate partnerships that may include charitable contributions, sponsorships, employee engagement, volunteerism, workplace giving, tax-credit opportunities, in-kind support, and multi-year investments.·

Deepen existing corporate relationships beyond transactional event sponsorships and identify opportunities for broader engagement with the agency.·

Solicit significant corporate gifts, sponsorships, and multi-year partnership commitments.

Collaborate with program staff to connect corporate partners with meaningful mission and volunteer opportunities.

Donor Pipeline, Stewardship & Moves Management·

Establish and oversee a consistent moves-management process that guides donors and prospects through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.·

Regularly review the donor pipeline, establish next steps for priority relationships, and ensure appropriate follow-up is assigned and completed.·

Identify prospective donors emerging from special events, volunteer engagement, corporate partnerships, Board relationships, and other agency activities and move appropriate prospects into the broader donor pipeline.·

Lead the agency’s donor stewardship strategy to strengthen relationships, improve retention, and encourage increased and long-term investment.·

Work with the Development Associate and other staff to coordinate acknowledgements, impact reporting, donor communications, recognition, and meaningful opportunities for donors to remain connected to the mission.

CEO, Board & Community Engagement·

Support the CEO’s major donor and corporate relationship-building by identifying priority prospects, developing engagement strategies, preparing for donor meetings, and recommending appropriate next steps.·

Engage Board Members and other volunteers in donor identification, introductions, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship based on their relationships and strengths.·

Partner with the CEO and Board leadership to strengthen Board Members’ understanding of and participation in fund development and provide clear, manageable ways for them to open doors, tell the agency’s story, and steward relationships.·

Participate in the Board Resource Development Committee and provide appropriate fundraising strategy, reporting, and support.·

Represent Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley at community, business, donor, and networking activities that contribute to relationship and resource development.·

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, social services, marketing, or a related field preferred. Equivalent demonstrated professional experience may be considered.

Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible fundraising, relationship development, business development, sales, or comparable experience.

Demonstrated success cultivating and soliciting significant gifts, investments, or partnerships.

Experience managing a portfolio of donors, customers, prospects, or strategic relationships strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with individuals, business leaders, and community stakeholders.

Experience developing corporate partnerships strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or other relationship-management technology preferred.

Must have access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel locally for donor and community meetings.

Flexible work hours may occasionally be required to meet donor and organizational needs.
