United Way of Northwest Florida, a dedicated non-profit leader in Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson & Washington Counties, is committed to improving literacy among young learners. Our innovative initiative, ReadingPals, is a volunteer-led mentor/mentee program in both Bay and Washington Counties designed to foster a love for reading while helping children develop essential literacy skills. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Director of ReadingPals to lead this impactful program and drive its growth and success.

The Director of ReadingPals will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, development, and implementation of the ReadingPals program. This leadership role will involve coordinating with internal teams, community partners, schools, teachers and volunteers to create an enriching reading experience for children. The Director will also ensure program sustainability, manage budgetary considerations, maintain and provide timely reporting requirements, maintain a healthy relationship with ReadingPals grantor, and assess the effectiveness of the program through data-driven evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the Reading Pals program, including curriculum development, volunteer training, and community outreach initiatives.
Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers, fostering a collaborative and enthusiastic environment that supports the program’s mission.
Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, libraries, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance program reach and effectiveness.
Collaborate with literacy experts and ReadingPals grantor to create and refine reading materials, activities, and resources that align with best practices in literacy education.
Establish metrics and performance indicators to assess program impact, using data to inform decision-making and improve program delivery.
Assist in securing funding and resources through grant writing, donor relations, and fundraising events. Manage budgets and ensure financial accountability for the program.
Promote the importance of literacy and the Reading Pals program through community presentations, social media, and other outreach efforts.
Prepare and present detailed reports on program success, challenges, and future initiatives to grantor, stakeholders and community partners.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, Child Development, or a related field preferred (but not required) and/or sufficient experience to satisfy management team and board of directors.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in program management, preferably within education or literacy-focused initiatives.
Strong understanding of early childhood literacy development and best practices.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and foster partnerships.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for working with children and volunteers.
Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to engage with diverse communities.
Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting, grant-writing and reporting.
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and Google Drive applications
Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe, Constant Contact, and the like
