Position Summary:

The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) is seeking candidates for the role of Director of Programs. UUUM is one of the oldest social justice organizations in the country, with a deep commitment to racial, social, and economic justice. Our core programs include after-school, weekend, and summer programming for high school students; a domestic violence shelter; and community engagement through history and the arts.

Key elements of the role include:

Management of UUUM programs, with a focus on our youth and community engagement

Ensuring programs advance our mission and are synergistic

Supervising program managers and community engagement staff

Ensuring programmatic excellence, including setting standards, and tracking outcomes

Establishing safety protocols and ensuring compliance

Developing and maintaining partnerships in program fields

Working as part of the leadership team

Reports to: Executive Director & Senior Minister

Specific Responsibilities:

Supervise youth and community engagement staff

Work closely with Roxbury community to enhance engagement and accessibility, ensuring that the program meets the diverse needs of the youth and broader community

Further develop the youth program to focus on life readiness with history and the arts as core enrichment components

Collaborate with staff to create curriculum, activities, and workshops that promote personal growth and community involvement

Foster partnerships with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to enhance program visibility and support

Implement measurement systems and ensure tracking for outcomes

Attend outside, stakeholder meetings relevant to programs

Attend board meetings and other organization events as needed

Working with the Executive Director, build on the programs, and develop synergy between programs

Strengthen relationship with program alum

Ensure safety policies are followed, and smooth operation and logistics of all programs

Assist in identifying funding opportunities, and work with development coordinator to complete applications and reports

To a lesser degree, will also assist the Executive Director in supporting our domestic violence shelter and manager

Job Requirements:

Strong experience as a manager.

Identification with the mission and vision of the UU Urban Ministry.

Committed to inclusion and diversity.

At least 5 years of nonprofit program experience.

Independent worker with good sense of when to consult with others and supervisor.

Excellent time management skills

Interest in history

Willingness to be flexible, and work as part of a team.

Ability to juggle multiple tasks and perform under pressure.

Knowledge of Roxbury preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field; Masters degree preferred.

Schedule:

Hours are 10:30 – 6:30 pm Monday through Thursday, Fridays remote. Requires flexibility, occasional

evenings and weekends to accommodate program activities and community events.
