Position: Director of Pastoral Ministry St. Patrick Catholic Church (Denison)
Purpose This position exists to aid the pastor in discerning and meeting the pastoral needs of the parish as a whole and as individuals.
General Summary of the Position The Director of Pastoral Ministry serves as a key ministry leader, collaborating closely with the Pastor to oversee and steward parish resources for sacramental preparation, coordinating parish ministries and outreach, supporting parish staff and volunteers, and guiding the parish strategic vision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Visioning
- Collaborate with parish staff, leadership councils, volunteers, and key stakeholders in developing a parish strategic plan
- Suggest new parish initiatives based on mission and sustainability
- Support a long‑term masterplan regarding programming, facility, and property use
Sacramental Preparation & Record Keeping
- Regarding infant Baptisms and adults seeking sacraments, including Matrimony
- Coordinate and support volunteers who aid in their preparation
- Schedule sacraments
- Coordinate all canon law paperwork, parish records, and certificates
- Follow through with communication to ensure all requirements are met in a timely fashion
- Regarding annulments, coordinate with the pastor to initiate the process for those individuals seeking a Declaration of Nullity
- Follow through with communication to ensure all requirements are met in a timely fashion
Coordinate Community Outreach and Special Liturgical Events
- Coordinate and support volunteers representing the parish presence at city run events
- Coordinate and support volunteers for special events, such as but not limited to:
- Parish Mission(s)
- All Soul’s Day Cemetery Mass
- Mass for Miscarriage and Infant loss
- Parish Feast Day Celebration
- Triduum
- Coordinate Eucharistic exposition in the Chapel
- Schedule regular, sustainable Eucharistic exposition, in accordance with Diocesan norms
- Coordinate regularly scheduled adorers and substitutes
Staff Supervision
- Supervise and support other ministers, namely Coordinator of Religious Education and Youth Minister
Miscellaneous
- Takes initiative in helping to support others, a team‑player
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Commitment to confidentiality discretion, and professionalism at all times
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, including long‑term planning and project management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in Theology or related field is preferred
- Minimum 10 years experience working in a parish or chancery
- Training/certification in Pastoral Ministry or related field preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 30lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Special Requirements
- May be required to work some evenings and Holy Days
- May be required to occasionally attend an after hours parish council meeting
