Join a Mission-Driven Team
The International Stability Operations Association (ISOA) is the leading trade association connecting government and industry to strengthen national security and mission success. Our members support some of the world's most complex humanitarian, contingency, defense, and sustainment operations, and we are looking for a relationship-driven professional who is passionate about bringing people together and creating meaningful connections.
As Director of Membership, you won't simply manage memberships, you will help organizations find their place within a vibrant community of government leaders, industry executives, and operational experts. You'll play a key role in helping members grow their businesses, expand their networks, advance policy, and contribute to conversations that shape the future of national security.
If you enjoy building trusted relationships, connecting people with opportunities, and helping organizations succeed, we'd love to hear from you.
Position Overview
The Director of Membership leads ISOA's efforts to attract, engage, and retain a diverse community of member organizations. Serving as the primary ambassador for the member experience, this individual develops lasting partnerships with current and prospective members while helping them maximize the value of their investment in ISOA.
Working closely with the President, staff, committees, chapters, and industry leaders, the Director of Membership creates opportunities for meaningful engagement throughout the year, from conferences and committee meetings to advocacy initiatives, webinars, and networking events.
Success in this role is measured not only by membership growth and retention, but by the strength of the relationships built, member satisfaction, and the overall vitality of the ISOA community.
What You'll Do: Build Relationships and Grow Our Community
- Cultivate meaningful relationships with prospective and existing member organizations.
- Introduce new companies to ISOA and help them discover how membership supports their business and mission.
- Identify opportunities to expand membership across defense, logistics, engineering, cybersecurity, AI, energy, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure, and emerging technology sectors.
- Develop creative outreach campaigns and recruitment initiatives that reflect ISOA's mission and strategic priorities.
- Represent ISOA at conferences, meetings, and industry events while serving as a welcoming ambassador for the association.
- Build and maintain an active pipeline of prospective members and nurture relationships over time.
Create An Outstanding Member Experience
- Ensure every new member receives a warm welcome and a successful onboarding experience.
- Develop long-term relationships that help members achieve their goals within the association.
- Regularly connect with members to understand their priorities, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
- Help members find the committees, working groups, chapters, conferences, and networking opportunities that best align with their interests.
- Encourage participation in speaking opportunities, sponsorships, advocacy initiatives, and leadership roles.
- Design thoughtful retention and renewal strategies using AI that demonstrate the ongoing value of ISOA membership.
- Reconnect with inactive members and learn from organizations that choose not to renew.
Connect People and Create Value
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for member organizations.
- Facilitate introductions between members, government leaders, industry partners, and other stakeholders when appropriate.
- Help members leverage ISOA's programs, events, advocacy efforts, and professional network to support their organizational goals.
Support Membership Operations
- Maintain accurate membership information and Association Management Systems records.
- Monitor membership trends, engagement, renewals, and revenue.
- Prepare reports and dashboards that help leadership understand member activity and identify opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with accounting and operations to ensure accurate billing, renewals, and member records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Six or more years of experience in membership, business development, customer success, account management, relationship management, or a similar client-focused role.
- Demonstrated success building long-term relationships and achieving growth and retention goals.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience using Association Management Systems (Salesforce experience is a plus).
- Ability to build credibility and relationships with senior executives and government stakeholders.
- Proficient in AI tools
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 15–25%).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a professional association or nonprofit membership organization.
- Familiarity with defense, national security, government contracting, international development, logistics, or related industries.
- Understanding of federal contracting, public-private partnerships, or the national security ecosystem.
Who You Are
You're someone who genuinely enjoys connecting people and helping organizations succeed. You're naturally curious, an excellent listener, and energized by building trusted relationships. You understand that membership is about much more than renewals; it's about creating a community where members feel valued, connected, and inspired to engage.
You are proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working with executives, government leaders, and organizations of every size. Most importantly, you believe that strong relationships create lasting impact.
Why ISOA?
At ISOA, you'll join a mission-focused team that brings together leaders from government, industry, and the international community to solve some of today's most pressing national security and global stability challenges.
Your work will directly contribute to strengthening partnerships, expanding opportunities for our members, and advancing conversations that matter.
If you're looking for a career where relationships, purpose, and impact intersect, we'd love to meet you.
