Organization Overview
Mid-coast Recreation Center (MRC) in Rockport, ME is a community recreation center whose mission is to promote healthy living and build community through sport, fitness, and recreation. Our facility has a full size ice rink, four indoor tennis courts, three virtual golf simulators, and a fitness center. We are currently expanding the facility with a new eight-court pickleball building and four outdoor tennis courts.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced marketing and development professional to build and manage a comprehensive fundraising and marketing program that supports MRC’s growth and long-term sustainability. This individual will partner closely with the Executive Director to promote our programs, increase unrestricted support, strengthen donor relationships, and support the success of our capital campaign.
The vast majority of MRC’s revenue is currently earned through the programs we offer. As such, we are in the early phases of establishing a cohesive development strategy; this role is a great opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is looking for the freedom to be creative, while having a large and lasting impact on the organization and the mid-coast Maine community.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
Develop a clear strategy, plan, and roadmap for marketing our programs; work with the Executive Director and other team members to execute.

Program Marketing
Grow program participation
Establish an SOP for marketing our programs & events
Develop a marketing channel strategy (email, social media, etc.); evaluate marketing channels and marketing messages for their effectiveness, continue to hone our marketing efforts to most efficiently reach the public and grow program participation.
Measure and report out on the impact of our marketing efforts
Individual Giving – Fundraising and Stewardship
Work with Executive Director, Board President, and other volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major supporters/donors as appropriate.
Grow our list of potential financial donors including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Annual Giving
Create and execute a healthy annual communications calendar, including messages of impact and at least 2 meaningful annual fundraising campaigns (ex: year-end appeal; summer appeal).
Evaluate results and explore additional opportunities for improved direct mail/e-mail fundraising efforts each year.
Capital Campaign Support
Engage with our capital campaign consultant to support campaign efforts.
Ensure our volunteers feel valued and appreciated as they solicit campaign donations.
Develop a strategy for converting campaign donors into long-time annual supporters for MRC.
Gift Processing and Stewardship
Maintain our fundraising database, managing all gift processing, pledge processing, gift acknowledgements, data entry and data management.
Issue timely, personalized, and authentic expressions of gratitude for gifts received throughout the year.
Corporate Sponsorship
Manage and expand MRC’s established corporate sponsorship program, including key initiatives such as ice arena advertising, while identifying new opportunities for partnership and growth.
Expand and professionalize corporate sponsorship outreach and processes.
Grant Writing
Assist the Executive Director in researching and applying for grant funding from public and private sources.
Events
Define and manage a calendar of community engagement and fundraising events. Plan and execute events, coordinating the support of colleagues and volunteers.
Evaluate the ROI of events and apply learnings for future events.
Communications
Develop clear messaging for the public around MRC mission, goals, successes, and asks.
Help ensure volunteers and staff are prepared to talk succinctly about why gifts to MRC are important and impactful.
Produce informative materials for distribution to staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
People Management
Directly manage the work and performance of a marketing associate
Advocate for (and justify) marketing & development resources, including team members and budget.
Coordinate volunteers in order to help achieve development and marketing goals.
Marketing & Development Operations
Provide data and fundraising reports to the Executive Director, as requested, and to the Board of Directors monthly.
Improve standard operating procedures related to marketing & development such that each year, the efforts get more efficient.
Skills and Qualifications
3+ years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization highly preferred.
Experience leading marketing strategy and marketing execution.
A fast learner; resourceful; find solutions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective public speaking to large and small groups.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
Proven track record of securing donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, or other funding sources.
Discretion and respect for confidentiality.
Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.
Proficient with software & media tools such as Google Suite, Bloomerang, Daxko, Canva, Facebook, Instagram; and/or quick at learning new software tools.
Reporting
The Director of Marketing & Development reports to the Executive Director.
