The Director of Institutional Relations reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and provides oversight, management, and implementation of a comprehensive program to secure gift, grant, and sponsorship support from foundations and public agencies.
Requirements and Key Competencies
Bachelor‘s degree;
Minimum five years successful fundraising experience; or equivalent combination of
education
and experience. Master‘s degree preferred. Proven success in securing complex foundation and government grants at the highest level is a must. Prior experience leading a successful team.
Responsibilities
Identifies, cultivates and manages relationships of a targeted group of local and national foundations and public agencies in support of CMA and strategic initiatives.
Maintains a
dynamic
portfolio of active foundation/government prospects, developing/managing those prospects through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to achieve stated financial attainment and activity goals.
Manages and tracks proposals and associated projects through all stages of development: proposal initiation, award, incremental and final reporting to funding source, when applicable.
Provides direction and standardization and maintenance of the grant and proposal development process. Ensures timely updating and validity of data and contact information maintained in the centralized museum-wide database.
Researches and prepares applications/required submittals and principal gift proposals to attract direct contributions to the museum. Leads the effort to effectively coordinate activities among various museum staff members in the development of individual donor and grant proposals, from initial development and preparation through final response from the donor or grant maker with subsequent evaluation and continuation submissions.
