The University is currently in an exciting phase of its most ambitious fundraising campaign, with a goal of $500M. This initiative aims to greatly enhance our presence and scholarship in the arts, health and life sciences, and entrepreneurism, while continuing to provide access and opportunity for our diverse student population.
The Director of Development, Major Gifts will be a key player on our Major Gifts team, focused on driving immediate revenue targets from gifts of $500K+, along with fostering long-term relationships with our principal donors. This role will specifically oversee campaign priorities related to either Health and Life Sciences or Entrepreneurship & Innovation, involving the cultivation of a network of alumni and community donors, managing the relevant Task Force or Advisory Board, and collaborating with university leadership to engage potential donors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
65% Principal Gifts Fundraising
Maintain an active portfolio of approximately 75-90 donors and prospects.
Develop and execute strategies to enhance engagement with high-net-worth individuals, with a strong emphasis on our university’s international community.
25% Leadership and Collaboration
Drive goal setting, customize proposals, set agendas, and facilitate strategy meetings to achieve our fundraising targets.
Cooperate with faculty, deans, and university leaders to create compelling cases for support that align with our funding priorities.
10% Volunteer Management
Collaborate with the Board of Trustees and other volunteers to nurture a robust pipeline of major donors.
Participate in key quarterly meetings and solicit contributions to the Campaign Committee.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of successful development experience in major gifts, ideally within higher education.
Background in healthcare, research, science-related fundraising, or entrepreneurship fundraising is advantageous.
A flexible and adaptable attitude to thrive in a dynamic role that is new to the university.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for proposal writing and delivering compelling cases for support.
Proven ability to engage with high-net-worth individuals through effective prospect identification, relationship building, and cultivation practices.
Excellent interpersonal skills that foster collaborative relationships across campus to achieve successful fundraising outcomes.
Strong commitment to confidentiality and familiarity with privacy laws regarding sensitive donor information.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as well as to work during weekends or evenings as needed.
