Summary
The director of development is a highly energetic and collegial professional with a track record of managing a significant portfolio, securing major gifts and building donor relationships. The director is responsible for managing a portfolio of major and planned gift prospects and donors with the goal of securing overall support for the university and partners with advancement marketing and communications to develop a strategic marketing plan to identify, educate and solicit planned giving prospects.
Essential Job Functions
Manages prospect relationships and works collaboratively building, prospecting, cultivating and soliciting within an assigned portfolio of major and planned giving prospects and donors
Assesses giving potential and creates and executes personalized strategies to expand the major gifts and planned giving pipeline, deepen philanthropic relationships and maximize gift opportunities
Identifies and qualifies new prospective major and planned gift donors and develops long term plans for their involvement with the university
Leads the marketing and communications plan for planned giving in coordination with advancement, marketing and communications, and manages vendor relationships
Tracks all donor and prospect outreach and activity in the database, effectively following prospect management guidelines
Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the mission and priorities of the university
Collaborates with university representatives to develop funding priorities and donor engagement and recognition opportunities in step with the university’s strategic plan
Maintains knowledge of best practices in the field of fundraising and advances understanding through professional development
Monitors the departmental budget
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
Moderate amount of experience working in fundraising, major gifts, planned gifts or other related experience
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge
