Position Summary

The Director of Development is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising activities and strategies to sustain and grow the organization’s impact. This role leads a team of development professionals and works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, program staff, and external stakeholders to cultivate meaningful relationships and secure diverse funding sources.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Management

Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy with clear goals across individual giving, major gifts, foundation grants, corporate sponsor ships, events, and planned giving.

Lead the annual fundraising plan and campaign calendar, ensuring revenue goals are met or exceeded.

Analyze development performance metrics and adjust strategies to improve outcomes.

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

Build and manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, conducting regular outreach, stewardship, and solicitation activities.

Support the Executive Director and Board in high-level donor engagement.

Ensure thoughtful donor recognition, communication, and engagement plans are implemented.

Institutional Giving

Oversee grant strategy, including identifying new opportunities, guiding proposal development, and ensuring timely reporting.

Maintain relationships with foundation and corporate partners, tailoring pitches and reports to align with their priorities.

Events & Campaigns

Lead execution of all fundraising events, including annual galas, donor briefings, and peer-to-peer campaigns.

Collaborate with marketing/communications teams to create compelling fundraising content and materials.

Leadership & Team Management

Supervise, coach, and support development staff, interns, and consultants.

Partner with the Board Development Committee to grow board member involvement in fundraising.

Champion a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Qualifications

7+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including direct management of staff.

Proven success in securing major gifts and managing diverse fundraising streams.

Excellent communication, storytelling, and relationship-building skills.

Strong project management, budgeting, and data analysis capabilities.

Experience working with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, Every Action).
