Arts Council Oklahoma City is a nonprofit dedicated to enriching lives through the arts. We produce year-round events, offer education programs, and build partnerships to connect our community through creativity. We are seeking a strategic and creative Communications Director to elevate our voice, grow our reach, and engage diverse audiences.

Position Overview

The Communications Director leads all aspects of internal and external communications, including digital strategy, media relations, branding, content creation, and event promotion. This position works closely with staff, leadership, and board committees to build awareness, support fundraising, and increase public engagement. Ideal candidates are strong storytellers, organized marketers, and passionate advocates for the arts.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a communications and marketing strategy across all platforms.

Manage website, social media, email campaigns, and online event listings.

Write press releases, serve as media spokesperson, and coordinate coverage.

Promote events and fundraising efforts through digital and print media.

Ensure brand consistency in messaging, visuals, and promotional materials.

Support event logistics including signage creation and install, vendor relations, and on-site content capture.

Collaborate with internal teams and board marketing committee on messaging and outreach.

Maintain photography/video archives and track performance metrics.

Oversee communications-related budgets and vendor relationships.

Serve as volunteer committee liaison as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.

4+ years of experience in communications, ideally within a nonprofit or arts-focused setting.

Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills.

Photography, editing, and video production skills.

Proficiency with social media, email marketing, and content management systems.

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools.

Public speaking and media relations experience.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.

Comfortable working evenings/weekends for events.

Appreciation for and interest in the arts.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., climb stairs and walk moderate distances.

Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions during events.
