Here’s a summary of responsibilities:
The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is a nonprofit organization supporting U.S. athletes and programs. Unique among National Olympic Committees, it does not receive government funding and instead relies on sponsorships and philanthropic contributions. The Director of Institutional Giving plays a key role in the Development Division, leading efforts to secure foundation and institutional funding to support athletes and programs. This role includes identifying funding opportunities, cultivating relationships, writing compelling proposals, and managing grants to align funders’ priorities with organizational goals. The position supports the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation’s (USOPF) Comprehensive Campaign and ensures institutional giving strategies contribute to achieving long-term fundraising goals.
Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

Program Development & Management (35%)
1. Collaborate with the Vice President, Strategic Advancement, to develop and execute a comprehensive institutional giving program that aligns with organizational priorities.

2. Identify and build relationships with new foundation prospects to grow the foundation portfolio, utilizing targeted outreach and engagement strategies.

3. Monitor trends in philanthropy to identify emerging opportunities and adjust strategies to maintain alignment with organizational goals.

4. Establish solicitation priorities and develop tailored cultivation strategies for institutional funders. Provide tools, resources, and coaching to staff, board members, and volunteers involved in solicitations.

5. Partner with the major gifts team to develop regional engagement strategies for institutional funders and ensure alignment with individual fundraising efforts.

6. Design and implement metrics to evaluate institutional giving progress, preparing detailed reports for the USOPF Board, USOPC leadership, and other stakeholders.

7. Spearheaded the launch of a comprehensive engagement program for Donor Advised Fund managers, driving strategic outreach, personalized relationship-building, and targeted communications to boost philanthropic partnerships and revenue.

Grant Writing & Proposal Development (40%)
1. Lead all aspects of the grant process, from identifying opportunities to drafting, submitting, and tracking grant proposals and reports.

2. Secure grant awards to maximize philanthropic revenue for the USOPC, achieving consistent growth in both the volume and value of institutional fundraising efforts annually.

1. Serve as the primary point of contact for institutional funding inquiries and materials, including letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and stewardship reports.

2. Develop a deep understanding of the USOPC’s mission, programs, and funding needs to articulate them effectively to institutional funders.

3. Build and maintain a library of grant templates for key initiatives, including the “One for All: Campaign for Team USA.” Collaborate with campaign leaders to ensure consistency and alignment.

4. Manage a portfolio of institutional funders, developing long-term stewardship strategies to deepen relationships and increase support over time.

5. Create an annual grant solicitation calendar, ensuring alignment with Development Division events and organizational priorities.

Relationship Management & Reporting (25%)
1. Cultivate relationships with foundation program officers, trustees, and other key stakeholders to build long-term partnerships.

2. Organize site visits, donor events, and meetings to enhance funder engagement and strengthen relationships.

3. Ensure proper stewardship by meeting reporting deadlines, providing timely updates, and acknowledging contributions promptly.

4. Track and report grant deliverables, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and organizational policies.

5. Maintain accurate records of institutional funders and grants in the donor database, supporting effective collaboration with the Analytics & Growth team.

6. Prepare presentations for USOPF and USOPC leadership and Board of Directors, summarizing progress toward institutional giving goals.

7. Perform other duties as assigned

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Advanced degree preferred
10+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a strong track record in institutional giving and grant writing
Proven success in securing major grants from foundations and other institutional donors
Demonstrated experience leading and managing complex, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse teams and initiatives
Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
Ability to communicate organizational vision and priorities in a compelling and persuasive manner to institutional funders and stakeholders
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, donor management software, and other relevant tools
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in donor relationships
Knowledge of U.S. foundation giving trends and institutional funding strategies

Hiring Pay Range:
National Market: $102,086 – $129,649 per year
Chicago: $112,550 – $142,939 per year
Los Angeles: $118,177 – $150,085 per year
New York City: $130,291 – $165,469 per year
San Francisco: $136,805 – $173,742 per year

This full-time, exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 20% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
