$55,000.00/yr – $65,000.00/yr
Job Summary
Encouraging and equipping children and youth to pass on or grow in faith through building and coaching teams that create education, fellowship, and service opportunities through Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfax and Clifton, Virginia.
Educational and Experiential Requirements:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is essential, preferably in education or another similar field. Master’s degree in education is a plus.
Experience serving successfully in ministry with children and youth (volunteer or staff) or an applicable context with children and youth.
A minimum of 5 years of congregational involvement as a member, volunteer, and/or staff.
Theological education, training, and/or ministry certification is desirable.

Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Essential Functions:
Build and support lay empowered ministry teams to develop and implement strategic plans for educational and relational programs for children and youth such as Journey (Sunday School), Vacation Bible School (VBS), children and youth activities, Confirmation, High School Youth Group, and others.
Provide opportunities to equip children and youth to talk about, experience, and live out their faith in God.
Help develop and maintain Child Safety Policies. Track and train leaders on policies according to church policy. Ensure all volunteers are clear and update background checks every 2 years.
Collaborate with Lord of Life preschools to provide age-appropriate Biblical lessons during Chapel and in the classrooms.
Be present Sundays at one of the worship sites to welcome and encourage families and to oversee programming for children and youth. As needed, assist with teaching and discipline problems. Provide training and scheduling for volunteers.
Research, select, purchase, and maintain educational materials.
Provide ways to welcome children and youth into the worship space. Encourage them to be part of worship.
Effectively manage monetary resources necessary for the fulfillment of this ministry.
Communicate and publicize educational opportunities and other activities in the weekly email (Lifelines), the children and youth websites, and newsletters to families and volunteers.
Hire, supervise, schedule, and communicate with personnel serving as staff for the church nursery. Provide necessary training at appropriate times (CPR/AED, First Aid, and background checks every two years).
Participate fully with the staff, attend staff meetings, and participate in staff-related events.
Build and maintain relationships with children, youth, and families through check-ins and other communications.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Discipleship.
* This position could be split into two half-time positions, one focused on children and the other on youth, if two suitable applicants so desire.
