The Director of Clergy & Church Financial Ministry (C2FM) leads the development and implementation of initiatives that address the financial and economic challenges impacting United Methodist clergy and congregations across Missouri. This position has responsibility for the educational and professional development offerings of the Missouri United Methodist Foundation (the Foundation). The Director's work combines administrative acumen, subject matter expertise, pastoral sensitivity, and entrepreneurial leadership to strengthen the professional development of clergy and local church leaders.
Started in 2016 with a grant from the Lily Foundation, C2FM was established as a program intended to respond to both the personal financial needs of clergy as well as a perceived gap in clergy education and professional development when it comes to financial and administrative management. Through C2FM, more than 170 Missouri United Methodist clergy have received both direct aid to alleviate personal financial pressures as well as professional development in finance and administrative matters. Now, seeking a new Director, the Foundation is ready to re-vision and coordinate all educational and professional development offerings and C2FM in order to better strategically address the needs of local churches and clergy.
The Director will provide the leadership needed for that re-visioning and coordination. The Director will be an administrator of both continued direct aid as well as the creator of a new coordinated program of education and professional development. The successful candidate will also serve as a trusted partner to clergy, churches, and stakeholders—upholding the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professional conduct. Success in this role requires creativity, initiative, and the ability to connect meaningfully with individuals and groups of all sizes.
The Director is an employee of the Foundation and reports to the President/CEO, with additional accountability and collaboration with the C2FM Advisory Committee, as well as the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Key Responsibilities
The Director will design, lead and grow a ministry of financial education, coaching and support, including:
- Planning, creating and implementing an educational and professional development program for clergy, lay leaders, and church staff on personal finance, stewardship, and church financial management
- Providing individualized financial coaching and counseling to clergy
- Reviewing applications for direct financial assistance in collaboration with the C2FM Application Review Committee
- Coordinating with the Chief Operating/Chief Financial Officer, to administer and oversee the distribution of financial aid to clergy
- Preparing clear and compelling reports for the President, funders and stakeholders
Education & Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (finance, business, social sciences, or related field)
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and personal finance
- Experience in financial advising, business, law, banking, accounting, or related fields preferred
- Certified Financial Planning (CFP) and/or International Coaching Federation (ICF) credentials are a plus
- Working knowledge of United Methodist polity and clergy credentialing is also a plus
Communication & Leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to connect with diverse audiences—from one-on-one coaching to large group presentations
- Experience building relationships with stakeholders and clients
Personal & Ministry Alignment
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
- High integrity, discretion, and professionalism
- Comfort with faith communities, in particular United Methodist theology and polity
- Familiarity with United Methodist Church structure, clergy life, and related financial challenges is highly valued
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel throughout Missouri (primarily by car)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent tools; database experience a plus
- Energy, initiative, and enthusiasm for the mission of the Church and the Foundation
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with benefits including employer pension contributions and individual health insurance.
Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000
Remote employment will be considered, but extensive time in the Foundation’s office in Columbia, Missouri as well as a balanced approach to statewide travel will be expected.
