The Job Development Specialist will be responsible for actively developing new employment and volunteer sites for adults with disabilities seeking employment. ­­­The Job Development Specialist supports Community Employment Navigators in facilitating intakes and workshops and providing coaching supports for Individuals in the program.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Meeting with employers in the community (70% of the time) to learn about their company and the opportunities for job carving and customized employment, and assisting employers in identifying ROI in investing into hiring people with disabilities.
  • Contacting employers and employer associations to solicit employment, volunteer or work experience opportunities.
  • Utilizing employer research to gain new employment opportunities and propose Customized Employment with interested employers.
  • Completing cold calls, via phone or drop in, to employer and volunteer sites.
  • Completing follow up phone calls, e-mails and face-to-face meetings with employers to develop long term relationships and maintain existing partnerships.
  • Assisting with job searches and aids individuals in their preparation for upcoming interviews.
  • Assisting individuals to apply for positions according to the Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals.
  • Arranging and accompanying individuals to interviews for coaching and moral support.
  • Providing awareness and self-advocacy skill development for individuals in the workforce community.
  • Attending ISP meetings with individuals and their supports to determine the individuals’ employment aspirations, experience, abilities, skills and potential obstacles as required.
  • Promoting disability awareness within the community by acting as a Goodwill Ambassador encouraging acceptance and inclusion.
  • Developing and maintaining up-to-date resumes, cover letters and references for all individuals seeking employment.
  • Creating and maintaining job search activity logs for each individual for the purpose of tracking searches and applications.
  • Acting as an advocate and positive role model in all stakeholder interactions, demonstrates appropriate work behaviour and communicates effectively in a professional manner.
  • Utilizing ETO database to maintain accurate and up to date time records, case notes and assessments.
  • Maintaining a list of all employers contacted through personal means and ETO.
  • Maintaining and adhering to all Career Connections program policies and procedures and the implementation of individual service plan.
  • What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education.
  • 1 years’ experience in social services is preferred.
  • Inside/outside sales experience would be considered an asset.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a Valid Cass 5 driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of businesses and other organizations in Calgary area.
