The Hypersomnia Foundation is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization managing an annual budget of approximately $1 million. We are committed to improve the lives of people with idiopathic hypersomnia and related disorders by advocating on their behalf, providing support, educating the public and healthcare professionals, raising awareness, and funding research into disease understanding and effective treatments. We strive to make a meaningful impact in our community through a range of physical and online events and programs, legislative advocacy and awareness campaigns leveraging digital media.
Position Overview:
The Director of Development is a salaried half-time position (approx. 80-100 hours a month). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of the Hypersomnia Foundation by leading fundraising initiatives, strategic donor development efforts and building strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and the community.
The Director of Development will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, communications team and board members, ensuring the organization meets its fundraising goals and advances its mission.
This position requires a dynamic individual with strong communication skills and a passion for improving the lives of those effected by chronic illness, and a proven track record in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing to Foundations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy:
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, annual giving campaign, corporate sponsorships, government grants, peer-to-peer fundraising and foundations of all sizes.
Donor Relations:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and potential new donors, and community partners.
Develop and implement strategies for donor engagement and retention.
Prepare and deliver compelling presentations to potential funders.
Manage and develop donor data base platforms.
Grant Management:
Identify, write, and submit grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, government agencies, and other sources. Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting.
Event Planning:
Lead and oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events, including peer to peer community outreach events to raise funds and awareness leveraging the organization’s fundraising platform.
Marketing and Communications:
Work with the communications and social media team to effectively communicate the organization’s fundraising needs. Provide quarterly reports to Board of Directors.
Data Management:
Utilize CRM systems to input contributions, manage donor information, analyze fundraising performance and create reports.
Increase percentage of funding from non-pharmaceutical agencies according to a 5-year strategic plan.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, with a focus on major gifts and grant writing.
Proven ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of current trends in nonprofit fundraising and donor databases.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a proven track record of securing major gifts and managing successful campaigns.
