The Role
As our Development Liaison, your job is to build relationships, write the case for support, and grow Volta’s revenue.
You’ll own a portfolio of donors and prospects. You’ll lead the grant strategy and write the proposals that win funding. You’ll structure sponsorship deals that turn local businesses into long-term partners. And you’ll work directly with the Executive Director on strategy from day one.
This is our first dedicated development hire. You’ll have the autonomy of a senior role, the mentorship of a hands-on Executive Director, and the runway to grow into the leadership of the department as we expand.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Build relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate partners — the kind of relationships that translate into multi-year giving.
- Lead donor meetings and discovery calls. Move prospects from interested to invested.
- Own the grants strategy: which funders we pursue, the proposals we write, and the reports we send back.
- Negotiate and structure sponsorship contracts and gift agreements that work for both sides.
- Develop and pitch tiered sponsorship packages to corporate prospects.
- Partner with the Executive Director on annual revenue planning and growth strategy.
- Represent Volta at funder events, board meetings, and community gatherings across South Florida.
- Brief the Executive Director and board members for high-stakes donor conversations.
What We’re Looking For
- 1–3 years of fundraising, donor relations, or grant writing experience.
- A strong writer — you can take a complex program and tell a story that makes someone want to fund it.
- Comfort and confidence in donor-facing conversations. You’re someone who can hold a room and follow up the next day.
- Strategic instincts: you know which relationships to invest in and which opportunities will actually move the needle.
- Genuine passion for music, the arts, and the role of cultural nonprofits.
- Grant writing or contract negotiation experience? Even better.
Qualifications – Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, arts administration, English, or related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, grant writing, or a closely related field.
- Exceptional writing skills — demonstrated through grant narratives, donor appeals, or other persuasive copy.
- Confidence and warmth in donor-facing conversations including with executives, philanthropists, and foundation program officers.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to prioritize relationships and opportunities that move revenue.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to hit deadlines across multiple parallel grant cycles.
- Genuine passion for music, the arts, and the role of cultural nonprofits in community life.
- Working knowledge of CRM platforms; willingness to learn Volta’s system.
Qualifications – Preferred
- Proven track record of securing grants or major gifts at a comparable nonprofit.
- Experience drafting or negotiating sponsorship and partnership contracts.
- Knowledge of South Florida’s philanthropic and arts funding landscape, particularly Broward and Palm Beach counties.
- Familiarity with Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute, NEA grant cycles, or Funding Arts Broward.
- Spanish language proficiency (helpful for Latin American partner work).
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $55,000 annually
Employment Type: Full-time
Benefits: Paid time off, professional development support
Schedule: Day Shift: Monday–Friday, 10:00AM–6:00PM (with occasional evenings/weekends for events–4 signature events + 6–8 community concerts annually)
Location: Pompano Beach, FL (hybrid-flexible after onboarding)
Travel: Occasional regional travel (Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade); 1–2 international trips per year may be available for Caribbean partner work as the role develops
