Summary:
Southside Family Nurturing Center is a holistic social service agency with over 40 years of experience serving families in the Phillips community and surrounding neighborhoods of South Minneapolis who are experiencing multiple risk factors. These risk factors include moderate to severe poverty, family violence, chemical dependency, historical and community based trauma, immigration status, homelessness, and mental health. We offer half‑day therapeutic early childhood education and home visiting services, free of charge.
Therapeutic interventions include speech, occupational, play, and music therapies. All programming, including meals and transportation, is free of charge and families participate in services voluntarily. Our mission: “Together with families and community, we nurture children, build on family strengths, and find alternatives to violence.”
Position Description/Responsibilities
The Development Director will provide operational management of all fundraising activities for SSFNC. Working directly with the Executive Director, this person will design, implement and execute a fundraising plan to support existing program services and to build a strong financial foundation for future program expansion. The current annual budget is approximately $1,300,000. Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, creativity, and relationship building are essential!

Responsibilities
- Work with the Executive Director to create and implement an annual development plan to meet the organization’s budget.
- Maintain the donor database including entering gifts and keeping donor records current.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Bookkeeper to regularly reconcile donor gifts and track and monitor progress toward annual fundraising goals.
- Research and write grant proposals to private and public funding sources, and work with the Executive Director and Program Director to ensure that all programming and reporting requirements of awarded grants are met.
- Execute timely and expedient recognition of all gifts, according to SSFNC donor and grant making requirements.
- Co‑facilitate or facilitate site visits with current and prospective funders.
- Provide strategy for an ongoing stewardship plan for donor retention, increased giving and major donor gift commitments.
- Lead the execution of planned fund‑and‑friend raising events as envisioned in the Annual Fundraising Plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board Development Committee.
- Coordinate or delegate quarterly newsletters, annual reports, and other written communications with donors and community partners.
- Maintain the organization’s website and work with administrative staff to execute all online communications.
- Create solicitations for individual donations, including an annual year‑end appeal mass mailing that goes out via USPS.
- Prepare monthly development reports to the Executive Director for the Board of Directors.
- Effectively involve board members in fundraising activities.
- Provide staff support to the Development Committee.
