Development & Communications Deputy Director
Carnegie Hill Neighbors (“CHN”) is a 501c3 organization which preserves the residential character and architectural heritage of the Carnegie Hill neighborhood in NYC and protects the area in myriad ways — including a dedicated safety patrol, efforts to block development which impact the historic neighborhood, and street tree care and planting to help mitigate environmental pollution and beautify our streets. Beautification of The Park Avenue mall, greening and cleaning the streetscape, andadvocacyefforts to ensure authentic historic context are the crux of our efforts.
Carnegie Hill is famous for livability and a high concentration of young families and older adults aging gracefully in place. The streets are safe, clean, and green with an array of local small businesses. Over 50 percent of Carnegie Hill has historic designation status.
The Role
The Development & Communications Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director (“ED”) and works incollaborationwith the Operations and Finance Managers, and the Board of Directors. A blend of fundraising and marketing expertise with anentrepreneurial spiritare talents we seek.
The right candidate will collaborate with colleagues and committee members on direction, tone, content, and timing to expand awareness of our mission, create new development programs and events, and optimize a treasure trove of in-house Carnegie Hill historic data. The deputy director will understand stakeholder concerns with the ability to respond on multiple platforms in the appropriate tone and cadence, using CRM tools to track data and respond on message, and other digital tools to cast a wide net in and out of Carnegie Hill.
Daily Responsibilities
Development of Existing and New Membership & Donors
Create and implement an annual development plan by using historical data and mining neighborhood data.
Manage payment portals and associated financial controls, including expanding online payment opportunities (ACH, Zelle, Venmo, Pay Pal, etc.).
Develop weekly and quarterly reports to communicate with team members.
Identify stakeholder groups to convert to donors and reengage lapsed donors.
Implement untapped donor opportunities such as family/individual estate planning benefiting CHN, matching gifts, etc.
Develop robust membership plans with clear value for individuals, businesses, institutions.
Retain members and investigate increasing annual membership dues.
Reach new account types: real estate agents, local schools, neighborhood buildings.
Champion Spring Benefit and other fundraising events.
Design timely and meaningful gift acknowledgements with digital tools.
Experiment and quantify results oninnovativedevelopment strategies.
Maintain and communicate calendar of outreach, acknowledgement, renewals, special appeals, events.
Merge email, traditional mail, and social media efforts where appropriate to improve outreach/communications efficiencies.
Communications
Help us build and communicate the Carnegie Hill Neighbors brand online as well as through traditional outlets.
Oversee Eblasts.
Oversee website; including calendar of events (using Eventbrite and other plug-ins), partner logos, copyright, and other “permanent” minutiae. Bug checks, speed tests, security/PCI compliance.
