Independence Historical Trust (Trust), the nonprofit philanthropic partner to Independence National Historical Park—Philadelphia’s National Park and home to some of our nation’s most treasured landmarks—seeks a Development Associate to support its growing development program. This position will play a vital role in strengthening donor relations, enhancing fundraising efforts, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of donor data and communications.
Key Responsibilities
Database & Donor Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of contacts, gifts, relationships, and communications in the donor database (Kindful).
Process and acknowledge all gifts in a timely manner.
Generate reports and analysis on individual giving trends and donor segmentation.
Identify opportunities for data clean-up and workflow improvements.
Assist in vetting donors as required by the National Park Service in Director’s Order 21
Grants
Assist in identifying grant opportunities aligned with the Trust’s mission and projects.
Support Director of Development in preparing and submitting grant reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Individual Giving
Support the development and management of a donor pipeline, tracking activity across all stages of the giving cycle.
Collaborate on cultivation and stewardship events for donors and prospects.
Support the Trust’s planned giving program, the Rising Sun Society.
Donor Communications
Draft donor correspondence and communications on behalf of the Director of Development, as needed.
Ensure donors are promptly and properly acknowledged through letters and emails.
Coordinate with Programs and Communications Coordinator on donor communications such as campaigns or annual appeals on the website, social media channels, etc.
Assist in the drafting of the Annual Report
Administrative & Event Support
Assist in the planning and execution of events and programs, including logistics and donor engagement.
Provide administrative and budgetary support related to development operations and grants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, nonprofit management, marketing, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
At least 2 years of development experience, preferably in the nonprofit or cultural sector.
Proficiency in donor database management; experience with Kindful strongly preferred.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven with the ability to manage multiple projects.
Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with the Philadelphia philanthropic landscape is a plus.
Preferred: Experience with Constant Contact, Classy, WordPress, and Canva.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new platforms and technologies.
Work Requirements
This position may be required to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
This position will be required to be in the office with the occasional approval to work remotely.
The location of this position is in a historic building located within a historic national park which is not always ADA compliant. Applicants will be required to utilize staircases.
