Job Description
The Development Assistant is responsible for facilitating the engagement of current and potential supporters of Americans United for Life. This role will support this objective by managing AUL’s internal gift processes, from receiving and entering donations, to managing check and bank deposits, to ensuring that gifts are quickly and accurately acknowledged. The Development Assistant will work with executive and development staff to handle special donor outreach and stewardship projects throughout the year.
The ideal candidate should possess strong customer service, data entry, and communications skills and familiarity with nonprofit organization operations, fundraising, and database management. This work requires precise attention to detail, the ability to maintain accurate database records, prepare and review letters and other correspondence, and provide customer service to donors and mission partners. This individual should also possess a strong work ethic, curiosity that leads to solutions, a commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and tactfulness with internal and external communications. An interest in nonprofit management, fundraising, and alignment with our pro-life mission and program work is needed.
This role is expected to work in AUL’s office located in the Washington, D.C., area and will report to the Director of Advancement. The role is part-time, 20 hours per week.
Requirements
General Responsibilities
Manage and execute the donor gift process in a timely manner, including:
- Retrieve, sort, and process gifts received in-office, and from AUL affiliated P.O. Boxes.
- Process check, cash, and credit card gifts for entry, including creating digital copies for accounting and auditing purposes and depositing gifts into bank accounts.
- Enter new gifts into the CRM, processing credit cards through our payment vendor.
- Generate, review, and send donor acknowledgements when necessary. Work with a third-party vendor to receipt gifts to general audiences and ensure quality control is maintained.
Additionally, this position will work within AUL’s CRM and related systems to:
- Process all donor contact information updates accurately and quickly.
- Generate donor lists for stewardship touchpoints and unique acknowledgements.
- Conduct donor and foundation research for major proposals and solicitations.
- Assist with report and fundraising collateral preparation.
Other Duties Include
- Provide administrative support for donor meeting outreach and coordination.
- Manage AUL’s donor relationship phone line to handle donor requests or concerns and process donations over the phone.
- Participate in conference calls and meetings and complete other projects as assigned by the Director of Advancement.
Qualifications And Credentials
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum one year of professional experience in a clerical or fundraising role with proven success in managing and executing detail-oriented processes with a customer-centric mindset. Experience working within a CRM system such as Virtuous, especially in the areas of gift and constituent data entry, list creation, and data management.
- Excitement to learn about and execute using non-profit development best practices.

This position is in-office. Days in office are flexible and will be determined in consultation with the Director of Advancement.
