POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Support Specialist is accountable for implementing council tactical plans to ensure the success of council programming as outlined in the council’s annual Plan of Achievement. They will deliver community-based programming to ensure that Girl Scout program opportunities are provided to communities with limited access to Girl Scouting. Through work with community contacts, they will strive to ensure community-based programming is sustainable.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assist with delivering community-based programs to girls in communities with limited access to Girl Scouts to meet the council’s Plan of Achievement goals, objectives, and initiatives, including membership goals.
Build collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, agencies, and businesses in order to support and enhance community-based program opportunities.
Organize scheduling of programs and staffing needs for in-school, after-school, organization/agency, and other community-based programming.
Maintain accurate records pertaining to attendance, incidents, surveys, and other data.
Assist with the pre-screening of part-time Program Facilitators for hire.
Assist with managing part-time program facilitators throughout the state (including but not limited to scheduling, training, and recruitment assignments).
Assist in creating curriculum around Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and program pillars.
Recruit volunteers to assist in staff-led community-based programs and to potentially transition to volunteer-led programming/troops.
Support and implement product sales in community-based programming.
Promote additional council and other Girl Scout opportunities.
Implement grants and complete evaluation and reporting as assigned.
Assist with monitoring department budgets, including the purchase of bulk program supplies.
Increase visibility and raise awareness of Girl Scouting in communities through networking activities, organizational memberships, booth displays, and speaking engagements.
Embrace and enhance a culture that values diversity and reflects the council’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Work collaboratively with Member Experience and Program departments on an ongoing basis to support council efforts.
Assist with approving part-time Program Facilitators payroll (on an as-needed basis).
Work in collaboration with Volunteer Education Manager to deliver Youth Mental Health First Aid courses to staff and volunteers.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree preferred, preferably in education or related field, or equivalent experience.
Two years’ experience working with youth.
Ability to work with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and girls.
Ability to work well with internal and external customers.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of current girl issues and Girl Scout programming.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM system.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Become a registered member and maintain membership in GSUSA.
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 lbs.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to maneuver around an event setting, including setup, facilitation, and cleanup.
Active participation in Product Sales Initiatives.
Represent GSOFCT in professional Girl Scout attire.
Statewide travel required.
Drive on a regular basis.
Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
Must carry and show proof of liability coverage of personal vehicle.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work primarily in a variety of community settings, with a hybrid schedule in an office environment.
