Role Description The Community Outreach Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Washington, DC. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community members, local organizations, and partners to support health and wellness initiatives. Day-to-day tasks include organizing and attending community events, facilitating informational sessions, and delivering outreach presentations about available services and programs. The role involves conducting outreach through in-person visits, phone calls, and written communication, as well as collecting feedback and data to inform program improvements. The Community Outreach Specialist collaborates with internal teams to coordinate resources, support referrals, and ensure that outreach activities align with the organization’s mission and goals.
Qualifications
- Strong community engagement and community outreach skills, with experience working directly with diverse populations.
- Excellent communication and writing abilities, including clear, professional verbal and written communication.
- Project management skills to plan, coordinate, and track outreach activities and events.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of or interest in public health, social services, or community-based care.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity when working with individuals from varied backgrounds.
- Organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in an on-site environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in social work, public health, communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in community outreach, health education, or related community-based roles is beneficial.
