Overview
Cultural Diversity Resources (CDR) is a nonprofit organization established in 1994, serving low-income populations in Fargo, Cass County, ND, and Moorhead, Clay County, MN. Its mission is to serve as an intercultural bridge that strengthens bonds, educates, and empowers low-income families. CDR is an Ameri Corps VISTA sponsor and host site, currently hosting four VISTA members in roles such as Communications Manager, Programs Coordinator, Community Resources Manager, and Fund Development Coordinator.
This anti-poverty project focuses on organizational capacity-building activities to leverage resources, resulting in increased funding, volunteers, sponsors, and partners, with the goal of long-term sustainability to empower low-income families and reduce poverty.
Community Partners
CDR’s community partners include New Roots Midwest, Ps & Qs Etiquette, Indigenous Legacy, and Women Initiative Network, which serves as a sub-host site.
VISTA Community Organizer Role
The major goal of the VISTA Community Organizer is to build organizational capacity of CDR and its partners by increasing funding, volunteerism, community engagement, and establishing effective management systems for long-term sustainability to alleviate poverty.

Duties
Expand community outreach and asset-mapping to identify current programs and resources, targeting areas for capacity-building and community empowerment.
Collaborate with community partners and local agencies on programs such as youth activities, employment, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency initiatives.
Organize group meetings, training sessions, and social gatherings to improve communication and networking for social, economic, and educational support.
Assist in recruiting businesses and organizations for sponsor ships and partnerships.
Additional Information
Member Duties: Focus on expanding community outreach, education, and empowerment through increased participation of community partners serving low-income populations, supporting economic and educational opportunities for long-term sustainability. Organize educational workshops, youth, and family activities in collaboration with partners.
Program Benefits: Childcare assistance if eligible, choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, living allowance, training, and an education award upon successful completion of service.
Terms: Car recommended, permits attendance at school during off-hours, permits working at another job during off-hours.
