Position Overview

The Community Intervention Worker (CIW) plays a vital role in reducing gun violence by engaging directly with youth and families at highest risk in North Long Beach. This position combines street outreach with real-time violence interruption, resource navigation, and trust-building. CIWs are frontline advocates who mediate conflict, support individuals facing systemic barriers, and help create safer communities through direct engagement and collaboration with partners.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct street outreach in high-risk areas including parks, schools, and neighborhoods
Respond to hit shootings and de-escalate potentially violent situations
Mediate conflict and provide intervention services in real-time
Build trust-based relationships with youth, families, and community stakeholders
Collaborate with the Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) and attend monthly meetings
Support individuals in navigating systems and accessing critical resources
Attend community events and neighborhood gatherings to foster visibility and connection
Maintain client confidentiality and ensure accurate, timely documentation
Qualifications

Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Certified Community Interventionist (LAVITA, PCITI, or equivalent) or willingness to obtain
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with diverse populations
Skilled in conflict mediation and crisis de-escalation
Deep knowledge of North Long Beach community dynamics and resources
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Non-judgmental, compassionate, and able to engage vulnerable populations
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Flexibility and resilience in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations
Preferred
Previous experience in outreach, social services, or violence prevention
