Coordinate and support the Scottish Peer Educator project aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of deceased and living organ and tissue donation amongst South Asian communities across Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas. The peer educator co-ordinator will manage a group of South Asian volunteers to attend events and deliver messaging on kidney health, disease and organ and tissue donation in partnership with the policy lead (Scotland).
The Scottish Organ and Tissue Donation Peer Educator project is a long-standing partnership with the Scottish Government. The project aims to increase awareness of deceased organ and tissue donation, and living kidney donation, among people within the South Asian communities in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, covering the Hindu, Muslim and Sikh faiths. The project involves working with peer educators (volunteers) from South Asian communities who attend events and talk to the communities about organ and tissue donation.
The successful candidate will have an awareness of organ donation and experience in effective community outreach and engagement with South Asian communities. You will be an excellent empathetic communicator, both written and verbal as well as being receptive and approachable with a “person-centred” approach.
You will have knowledge and awareness of the geography of the South Asian communities in Glasgow and Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. In addition, you will need to have a full driving licence and access to a car.
