With a strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Development Manager to join our dynamic team.

The Community Development Manager will lead community engagement and development activities in an Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture Project in India (West Bengal). The ideal candidate will be responsible for fostering strong relationships with local communities, ensuring sustainable mangrove conservation and Silvofishery practices, and facilitating active participation in the project. This role requires someone who is passionate about environmental sustainability and community empowerment.

Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Relationship Building:

Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and government bodies to support the Silvofishery development project.

Prepare and participate in community engagement meetings; strengthen meeting processes and formats.

Facilitate communication between the project team and local communities to ensure a collaborative approach to mangrove conservation and Silvofishery development.

Address/support any conflicts or issues that arise within the community or stakeholders

Social Data Gathering and Analysis

Update and analyse stakeholder mapping

Provide support to conducting and analysing social surveys

Project Implementation & Support:

Oversee the implementation of community-driven initiatives related to mangrove restoration, conservation, and sustainable resource management.

Provide guidance and support to local community groups in project-related activities

Capacity Building & Training:

Organize and lead training sessions, workshops, and educational programs for the communities and the partners.

Build the capacity of local leaders and community groups to take ownership of mangrove conservation efforts and related activities.

Monitoring & Reporting:

Track and report on community participation, engagement, and the impact of project activities.

Prepare and support regular reports for project stakeholders on community development progress.

Collaboration with Multi-disciplinary Teams:

Collaborate with other NGOs, local government bodies, and stakeholders to share knowledge and leverage resources for effective community development and environmental protection.

Qualifications

Candidates with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and preferably a master’s or equivalent degree in Social Work/ Sociology, Agriculture/Horticulture, Veterinary Science,

B.Tech (Agriculture), Rural Management, Community Development, Geography, Anthropology or any other related field. would be preferred.

Should have a good background in community engagement in rural areas of West Bengal, experience in agriculture or forestry focused projects would be a plus.

A minimum of 5-10 years of work experience in mobilizing, institution building and community engagement activities is desirable.

Good command with MS Office and survey software is desirable.

Language proficiency:
Fluency in Bangla and English.
