Job Description
The Community and Financial Education Advocate is responsible for advancing financial literacy and advocating for the financial needs of the El Paso, Fort Bliss, and Dona Ana communities. This role involves developing and delivering educational programs on financial topics, providing personalized financial counseling, and creating informative materials that support financial literacy throughout the community. Additionally, the position requires building relationships with community and industry organizations, advocating for financial literacy, organizing events, and monitoring community financial needs.
By combining education with advocacy, the role aims to enhance financial wellness and support the credit union’s mission to positively impact its members and the broader community.
Through participation with political, legislative, and government bodies, the Community and Financial Education Advocate will provide recommendations to support policy decisions to benefit credit union members and the broader community. This involves identifying and prioritizing key financial issues, providing insight, and building relationships with elected officials, League and Chapter employees, and lobbying entities. The role includes tracking relevant legislation, analyzing its impacts, and participating in coalitions to strengthen advocacy efforts.
Additionally, the advocate organizes public policy campaigns, creates supportive materials, and documents advocacy activities to ensure effective engagement and adjust strategies as needed. Overall, the goal is to shape community initiatives relating to financial wellness that align with the credit union’s mission.
Job Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor’s degree in communication, business administration, social sciences, or related field preferred, or equivalent related experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
One (1) year of experience in public relations or community outreach.
One (1) year of experience in a financial institution (Preferred).
One (1) year of experience in designing, developing, and facilitating presentations (Preferred).
Must successfully complete the Financial Counseling Certification program within one (1) year of employment.
