Company Description Restorative Justice for Africa (REJA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the justice gap for indigent inmates, with a particular focus on women and children. REJA advocates for restorative justice, the Rule of Law, and juvenile justice reforms. The organization also leverages technology to improve access to justice and promote fair treatment within the criminal justice system to ensure people-centered justice across Africa.
Role Description The Communications Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Abuja. This position is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that advance REJA’s mission and visibility, including managing media relations, all social media channels, and digital content. The role involves drafting press releases and advocacy materials, preparing reports and newsletters, coordinating campaign messaging, and ensuring consistent brand and narrative across all platforms. The Communications Manager will collaborate with program teams to translate complex legal and social justice issues into accessible messages, manage stakeholder communications, and support events, campaigns, and partnerships through effective storytelling and public engagement.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in strategic communications, and experience woring with an NGO, with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive communication plans.
- Proficiency in content creation, including writing, editing, and storytelling for digital platforms, social media, and print materials.
- Experience with digital communication tools, social media management, and basic design or multimedia tools (e.g., Canva, basic video editing) is highly beneficial.
- Ability to synthesize complex information, and tailor messages for diverse audiences, including donors, partners, media, and affected communities.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple communication activities.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, human rights, or nonprofit advocacy; experience in justice sector, women’s rights, or child rights is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in additional local languages is an added asset.
