Under the supervision of the Director of Development, the Communications Manager will be responsible for the management of all external agency communications. The Communications Manager will be responsible for maintaining Urban Peak’s positive public image and ensuring that the agency’s message reaches its target audience effectively.
This person will lead the agency’s efforts by developing and implementing communication strategies that align with the agency’s mission and goals. This person will oversee content creation, media relations, social media and brand management, to ensure the agency continues to raise awareness that ending youth homelessness changes trajectories, saves lives and creates lasting community impact. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting performance analyses, collaborating with internal teams and consultants to communicate with stakeholders and manage communications during any crisis or sensitive situation.
This position will ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at Urban Peak are trauma-informed and emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff.
Who You Are
Five or more years of professional or technical experience developing and implementing a strategic communications plan for an organization or agency, preferably within a non-profit organization
Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, non-profit management, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience in communications, marketing, non-profit management.
Experience managing an organization’s marketing, graphic design and brand awareness.
Experience managing communications and content creation for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X)
Experience with Canva, Adobe graphic design apps, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge (or other donor management CRMs)
Strong knowledge of managing digital marketing tools and platforms to reach various audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and partners, through excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
Lived experience reflective of the youth served by Urban Peak encouraged but not required.
Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy in order to conduct business on behalf of the agency
Must pass both federal and state background checks
Must pass pre-employment TB screening
What You Will Do
Mission-Driven Communications
Collaborate with CEO, senior leadership team, Director of Development and consultants to develop communications strategies that align with Urban Peak’s mission and vision.
Solve communications challenges through an interdisciplinary, inclusive and integrative approach by building solutions that bridge different interests or points of view.
Implement communications methods that promote agency’s events, programming, and initiatives to raise constituent awareness, and mobilize support.
Communicate with donors, volunteers, partners, and the community to keep them informed and engaged with the agency’s activities.
Develop and execute engagement strategies that build lasting relationships from initial contact to long-term involvement.
Support the leadership team with other tasks as assigned, contributing to the organization’s overall objectives.
Content Creation
Write content for newsletters, social media posts, website updates, promotional materials, annual reports and press releases to engage supporters and constituents.
Capture storytelling narratives for publications that raise awareness of youth homelessness and describe program’s impact on youth to drive event participation, donor engagement, retention and partnership development.
Identify and create compelling content by pulling information from existing sources and gathering new insights from staff, youth, committees and other constituencies.
Adjust voice and communication style to fit various audiences and purposes.
Digital Communications
Create, build and execute email campaigns, including monthly newsletters, event invitations, fundraising campaigns and appeals.
Manage the agency’s online presence, including website content, email marketing, social media and online promotions to increase number of constituents supporting agency and fundraising efforts.
Monitor communications’ performance through metrics and feedback and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
Media Relations and Branding
Collaborate with CEO to create crisis communication plans and manage communication during crises or sensitive situations.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets and respond immediately to media inquiries.
Ensure consistent usage of the agency’s brand and messaging across all platforms and materials to elevate the brand.

Who We Are:
Founded in 1988, Urban Peak is the only non-profit organization in Denver that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 12 through 24 experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Our goal is to meet youth where they are and to provide them with assistance and support they need to become self-sufficient or obtain the necessary services they need to exit a life on the streets.
Urban Peak provides numerous programs and services that are founded on the principles of trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development to assist youth in reaching their potential and living a successful life off the streets. Services include street outreach, a 136-bed campus for youth ages 12 through 24, day services, supportive housing, education and employment services, case management, life skills courses, behavioral health evaluations, meals and more.
