Position Overview:
We are seeking a mission-driven Communications Intern to join our remote team. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, digital storytelling, community outreach, and donor engagement. Although this internship is unpaid, there is a strong potential for it to transition into a salaried position, depending on organizational funding and performance. The internship is designed for students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals looking to build practical skills in communications, development, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in developing and executing communication strategies across social media, email, and web platforms.
Research funding opportunities and contribute to grant writing efforts (training will be provided). Collaborate with the Director of Digital Marketing on content creation and scheduling?
Draft donor engagement emails and organizational newsletters.
Identify and plan for community event opportunities, including local tabling events.
Conduct outreach to media outlets, maintain contact lists, and support drafting of press materials. Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute to communication planning sessions.
Help develop messaging around key initiatives and impact campaigns.
Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing skills. Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, X).
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Enthusiasm for community-building, nonprofit work, and digital engagement.
Basic graphic design skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.
Interest in grant writing—no prior experience needed, as training will be provided.
Time Commitment and Term:
Interns are expected to commit 10–15 hours per week with flexibility based on academic or work schedules. The internship lasts one year and may be renewed or transitioned into a paid role based on available funding and performance.
