Position Overview
The Manager, Civic Engagement is responsible for leading a team of Senior Ameri Corps Members through an 11-month service-based program. The manager supports the implementation of volunteer opportunities and oversees engagement with First-Year Ameri Corps Members, as well as leading Civic Engagement Service Events. The Civic Engagement Program Manager at City Year Chicago works to expand impact through community partnerships and community initiatives, reporting to the Managing Director of Partnerships & Civic Engagement.
Job Description
Responsibilities
Project Management & Community Partnership
Manage and implement 15+ civic engagement community and corporate service events, ranging from 10 to 1,000 volunteers, from August through June.
Partner with the Impact department to secure locations for service events, building relationships with school and community center stakeholders.
Lead planning, design, execution, and follow-up of service events, including beautification projects like murals, gardening, and light construction.
Conduct site visits and manage logistics to meet client needs, sponsor expectations, and participant abilities.
Set and monitor measurable goals for Ameri Corps members to ensure effective event planning and execution.
Manage the program budget efficiently to maximize resources.
Expand the Civic Engagement portfolio to reflect City Year Chicago’s mission and community focus.
CE Team Management
Develop, manage, and lead a team of 6-8 Senior Ameri Corps members, fostering leadership aligned with City Year’s mission and values.
Facilitate training on project planning, volunteer management, customer service, and other team-specific elements.
Support members in understanding and adhering to City Year policies and structures.
Use performance management tools to set expectations, identify development areas, and maximize leadership potential.
Volunteer Engagement
Implement volunteer recruitment processes.
Ensure volunteers have clear guidance and resources.
Oversee recruitment, training, and coordination of Service Reserves (25-50 Ameri Corps members supporting weekend events).
Leverage the Service Reserves program to build a pipeline of future Civic Engagement team members.
Build partnerships with community organizations and project partners.
